It is with great sadness I report the loss yesterday of Christian "Sunny" Cottoy. Owner of Fort Recovery along with his wife Anita, Sunny was one of the most kind, gentle, respectful, men I have ever had the pleasure to meet. It was an honor to call him my friend for many years. Rest in peace my friend.

I was on my way to a friend's house for dinner last night and was turned back by a gentleman in a red truck on the road leading up the hill from the West End Community center.

There are two ways to get to my friend's place, so I turned the car around, went to the other entrance by the ferry dock and proceeded up the hill, only to be told that I would have to find an alternate route as there had been an accident.

I told the fellow that I was going to the house right there ... and pointed about 80 feet away, and only had to make it to their driveway. He said, well maybe you can get around my truck and these other cars. He then whispered, a man died.

I was stunned by this news and said "Oh no!". He said yes, it's Mr. Sunny from Fort Recovery. My heart sank.

I didn't know Sunny well and in fact only met him a few times over the years. However, my take was that he was a very kind and friendly man with a great sense of humour.

My sincere condolences go out to his wife Anita and the whole staff at Fort Recovery.
