We have never belonged to RCI because we never exchange our weeks at La Vista, however, we're considering exchanging one of our weeks this year. I'm reviewing the terms and conditions on RCI's website, and something is unclear to me. How long do I have to use the week I've deposited? This is what it says: " The start date of the requested vacation is not earlier than one (1) year before or later than two (2) years after the start date of the Deposit, used to confirm the Exchange Request. Exchange Request periods may vary for Combined Deposits
and Deposit Credits;
"

Does this mean that I must use the week within two years of the date of the week, or the date I deposit it?

I guess no one here knows either, lol. I actually chatted with someone who's an RCI member and exchanges frequently, and the answer is that you must use your deposited week within two years of its start date. So if I, for example, deposit Week 47 in 2017, I have until the beginning of Week 47 in 2019 to use it.

I have no idea, but I would think maybe they could confirm in writing to you when it has to be used by, when you deposit it??

I'm guessing they do; I just wanted to know before I made the decision.

Two years after the deposit date is the usual rule. You can extend the date by paying a small fee so it will be extended for another year.

AS an RCI member, I will tell you that weeks are a lot less flexible to use than points. I hate to suggest this but you might want to do an Ebay search for RCI points units for sale and buy a points unit and use the points for exchanging. I have seen them go for as little as $100 with the seller paying all closing fees except the RCI fee. WE are coming in April and using our points, but I have also used last call vacations for $189 to $269 to stay on SXM with no points. The only thing you have to pay is your mait fee each year. We have been with RCI for about 15 years.

I think you replied to the wrong person here. I am a points member and have been with RCI for 23 years.

You have three years to use the week. If the first day of your timeshare week that you deposited is Dec 1, 2018 then you can trade for any date from Dec.1, 2017 (1 year prior to your timeshare week)until Dec.1,2020 (2 years subsequent to your timeshare week). If you deposit within the year, for example April 1, 2018, you do not get any additional time and your trading range would be 2years, 8 months.
So the simple answer, it is based on the date of the timeshare week (i.e.week 46) not on the date of deposit

Hope this makes sense and helps

LOL GAKaye - we are just the opposite... we have owned a timeshare in VA Beach since the early 90s and never stayed there. Since then we have been to Spain, Malta, Guadeloupe, SXM and multiple other places. You got good advice above, and let the adventures begin.

I will be curious where you decide to go.

I realize this is none of my business but wondering if you are thinking about a week on Anguilla as your third week?

No, we've just decided to stay for only two weeks this year, and see how that feels. We both felt like the full three weeks was too long last year; although now that we've been home a while, it doesn't seem such a bad thing, lol. We'll probably use the third week somewhere in the US.

And while it may be "none of your business"; we're friends, and I certainly don't mind your asking!

I am an RCI weeks member and this is the way I understand it.

Unfortunately, no. Perhaps it's time for you to plan a June trip? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />
