Hi, my first post after years as an unregistered user. It will be us and the 2 kids staying in Orient village in July for 2 weeks. My question: what is the price for a Taxi to Grand Case for dinner for the 4 of us (each way)? We will likely get a car for at least a week but was wondering if using the taxi was an option for the last week?

With a family of 4 you best get a car for the duration of your stay

From the way I read the chart, it would each $28 each way ($7 per person), if it is not late at night (there is a premium after certain hours). Taxi rates: http://taxistmaarten.com/wp-content/uploads/SXM_Zones_and_Rates_Sheet_2014.pdfIf you are going during the day and want to take the bus and feel like a local, it is $2 per person each way. While many say a car is a must, we don't rent one (and we usually stay 3 or 4 weeks) since when we venture away from Orient Bay, we usually enjoy alcoholic beverages. We don't want to drive after consuming the wobbly pops. Aside from safety, remember that the level of blood alcohol allowable in France is lower than in most places in the US. So for us, a taxi or a bus is well worth the investment.

We used Wilfred Brooks when we would go from O.to GC, but haven't for the last couple years because we've been renting a car. He used to charge us $25 back and forth, I believe he still has his van. If you're not use to driving there I would recommend a taxi because driving in that area can get pretty crazy also parking can be difficult. If you do decide to drive I would recommend getting there early around 5:30 or 6:00 for parking, plus the restaurants get packed any later.

thank you all for your sage advice. we will be renting a car for the 2 weeks. We may still do the taxi one night so we can indulge in some 'wobbly pops'.
