looks like big wind next week! Does the Moorings ever restrict you from departing?

I've left in winds equal to small craft warning on a couple of Mooring trips. "Be careful Cap, you know how to reef, right? Iron Jenny will get you there just fine"

Just finished a week and it was pretty windy but weather reports shows it's getting worse. Saw a young family leave today and feel bad for them.

Trip report coming soon

Small craft warnings are one thing but 29 knots (as forecast) are nearly gale force winds. The anchorages will be very messy so pick your places to hide well!

I do know one mooring we were on said it was rated for winds of 40 (not sure if it said knots or mph) and anything above it you had to vacate the mooring.

They do say that, but with the large variability in the amount of windage of two given charter boats under 60' ( think Beneteau 343 vs. Moorings 5800 ), I certainly wouldn't interpret that limit too literally.

I am just seeing the standard winter 15 to 20 Knot forecast. You get up toward 30 and it's a different ball game. A north swell is forecast to move in Sunday.

It's interesting weather.gov and magicseaweed, weatherbug etc are pretty different in their forecasts...

Windguru shows it gusting to 34 mph on Monday. That will dry your laundry!

Looks like it will be a slow week up here on Anegada: Winds from the north at 30+kt, gusts to 35+ through Wednesday. That'll keep the credit card captains away.

Many of the day sailing professionals rely on this site for current and historical winds and fairly accurate forecasting.

What are people's thoughts on Trellis Bay when there is a East to ENE wind? We were hoping to make the full moon party on the 12th, and it's looking like that might be another windy night. Thanks

I would think it would be the opposite ??? Experienced and prudent captains would likely realize the conditions are unfavorable --- CCC's often go just where they are planning to go regardless of wind and sea reality or forecasts.
I could be wrong...... but it appears that the "scheduled itinerary" is often the determining course <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> - White Bay JVD over nighting is a good example. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/drown.gif" alt="" />

IMO, it all depends on the vessel and the experience of the captain & crew.
If I were in a 35' Beneteau I'd probably stay put. But I'd have no worries in 30 kts in a Voyage 500. Put the 2nd reef in and only unfurl 2/3 of the genoa, and off I'd go.
Hell, in the 2012 Anegada Lobster Regatta we saw winds gusting into the 40's, with some boats reporting even higher. Other than arriving wet due to the squalls, we were otherwise unfazed. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />
