Thanks to the doctor and pharmacy in Road Town for helping me continue to enjoy the rest of my charter time! Would not wish this on anyone, except a truly rude guy on the CGB dinghy dock. I lost 10 pounds in a week, not recommend for a diet, missed the full moon party at Leverick. The right drug combo and we are back to normal. If anyone calls I'll here, the medical staff is great! IMHO
120.00 for the doc visit and 12.00 for 3 prescriptions.

What did they think you had caught? Just general food poisoning from bad fish or ciguatera from reef fish?

My understanding, there is no medication for Ciguatera. The medical condition lasts for months with neurological systems as numb mouth, aversion to fish for months or years. Sounds like some sort of food poisoning. Did you get a blood test to confirm Ciguatera?

No blood test. Drugs working great for what ever it was. Fish sandwich from Tonya cgb. If just food poisoning, could have also been pizza at pussers west end or chicken roti at quitos.
Not afraid to eat anywhere here. Really propping up the medical staff in road town

Unless multiple people fell ill with only one single common denominator it is vertically impossible to determine the source of any food born illness. When we are traveling we can become very ill from just touching a rail or door knob. Most claims of "food poisoning" are really something else contagious. All that said why eat any fish that comes from anywhere near a coral reef. If you want to eat seafood go to Maine or Louisiana.

What a ridiculous comment. The food poisoning part is somewhat correct, but not eating seafood in the Caribbean is just plain weird. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Ya know... since it came & went so quick (yes, a week and 10lbs)... altogether possible it was the mayo or other sauce... assuming there was some on the sandwich
Just saying.... as even a bad coconut will lay you out in a hurry... might not be the fish itself... or the pizza, etc

In the bunch of years - never worried about eating the fish - whenever we were lucky enough to find anything worth jumping at
And... as you found out - the pharmacies, the Dr's - are experienced in this type of thing - they are a good bunch

Again if you put local fish caught anywhere near a coral reef in your mouth you are playing a very risky game of Russian roulette. If you want to eat local fresh fish travel to places with estuaries not coral reefs. Many never recover from the toxins found near coral reefs.
