We returned Dec. 26 from 10 days on St. John. This trip we stayed at Garden by the Sea which was fabulous: great location near Cruz Bay, superb breakfasts each day, and very nice beach chairs and towels. They provide everything you could possibly need for a day at the beach including coolers and frozen water bottles to keep food cold. There is also a common kitchen with a fridge and stove. It is an easy walk to town with very little traffic. They only have three rooms so it seems like you have your own villa. The owners even drove us to the ferry when we took the ferry to Jost Van Dyke and when we left. They are very helpful.

One disappointment was the north swell was up all week and the north shore beaches were all closed or simply not usable. There was literally no beach. As a result, we took the ferry to Jost Van Dyke three of the days and had a great time at Soggy Dollar. We have also stayed on JVD and love that spot as well. For those interested, the ferry now runs everyday between JVD and St. John. Monday-Thursday it returns at 4:30 and the rest of the days it returns at 3:00. It leaves St. John at 8:30. It is $70.00 one way per person.

Two other days we took the dollar bus to Salt Pond. If you choose this option, be sure to ask the driver what the return schedule is for that day. We asked but still wound up waiting for the bus for three hours at Salt Pond when we were ready to leave. We made it an adventure and met some great people while waiting, but it is still a bummer if you have any type of schedule. But, for a dollar . . . who can beat that considering how far Salt Pond is from Cruz Bay.

We also love Woody's which has the best service even when they are super busy. You'll always be greeted with a smile and a quick drink even if it is packed. Their food is good also. We loved their happy hour. $1.00 beers!! Also, say hello to Megan if you go. Tell her the people from Michigan miss her. They took such good care of us while we were on island. They have the best rum punch I have ever had!!!

Another great meal was Christmas Dinner at Waterfront Bistro. Superb food and service and view.

We also met the guys who just opened St. Johnimals in Wharfside Village near the ferry dock which is a great boutique pet store. Check it out for a goody for you pet. I bought some tasty treats for my dogs and some fun greeting cards. The owners are so friendly.

Overall, a fabulous vacation. We especially miss Woody's and the warm sunshine on the beach. Can't wait until next time!!!
