Day 9 "Fun in the Sun"
Today began as a lazy day. We got up and had a casual breakfast and decided to just hang out at the condo until noon. It is so quiet and peaceful here and although the pool is for all the residents to enjoy, we always have it totally to ourselves. For lunch today, we decided to go to Hilma's and spend some time with Hilma and the local residents who always drop by for some of her delicious dishes. We love the salt fish and johnny cakes there and Hilma always has ice cold Carib to wash them down! YUM! The power was off there in that general area so it was fun talking with several merchants who congregated there for conversation since their businesses had to be closed. We ended up spending a long time there getting to know a few people we would not usually have the opportunity to meet; thanks to GEBE!
We left there and spent the afternoon on Simpson Bay Beach at Karakter Beach Bar. Karakter is now open 7 days a week starting Nov.1 and no longer closed on Tuesday! The beach was full of people enjoying the beautiful day there. The water was the calmest I have ever seen there and the beach was wide with easy walking all the way to Beachside Villas. Since we had already had lunch, we enjoyed a bucket of Amstel Bright while soaking up the rays.
We stopped at Buccaneer on the way home to catch the sunset which was beautiful tonight! Dinner tonight was at Islandgem Cafe. We had a nice spinach salad with steak and mushrooms, enjoyed with a bottle of French red wine followed by tea and chocolate cookies. We really enjoy eating in occasionally while on vacation. David especially enjoys a home cooked meal even better than dining in the best restaurants so I take that as a compliment. Service is" non compris" so the good tips are always appreciated at Islandgem Cafe. There is also no TOT and no 1 to 1!
We enjoyed some after dinner drinks and got ready to go out for the evening around 10:00 P.M. We decided to stop by the Dunes Casino and ended up staying until about 1:00 A.M. We had intended to go into the Red Piano on the way home to hear the Gomez brothers from Quebec, Canada, but they had stopped playing by then so we will do that another night.
We enjoyed a night cap and then went off to dreamland. We are so blessed!
