Day 12 " Fun in the Sun"
We opened our eyes to a beautiful blue sky with not a cloud in sight and warm sunshine ! We went to Le Sucriere in Simpson Bay for breakfast and enjoyed our fresh croissants and cappucino on the balcony there overlooking the water. What a lovely way to start the day!
After breakfast, we headed to Orient Club O Beach to spend the day. There were lots of chairs available today since Saturday is the day many people leave and check-out of their island accommodations. We settled into chairs in the first row and cast all our cares to the warm breeze!
Soon our cell phone rang and we discovered we had committed an A/C crime and we were being tracked down on the beach! The manager of our condo had called to inform us that we had left the A/C on when we departed for the beach and the crime was discovered by the maid who had arrived an hour or so after our departure! Well it so happens the maid had an axe to grind, and this was her opportunity! On Thursday the maid was scheduled to come and do her weekly cleaning which included changing the bed, towels, washing bedding and towels and doing the floors etc....When we arrived back at the condo on Thursday night, there was no evidence she had been there as the beds had not been changed, same towels were hanging on the rack etc....I just decided to forget about it since we always keep our accommodations spotless and we could change the beds etc...so easy since all the linens were provided in the unit. The next day we talked about it and still wondering if she ever showed up, I decided to call the manager to check. I really didn't want her being paid for something she didn't do! (Now this gets really funny!) The manager was surprised since he personally dropped her off at the condo and so he called her to see what she had done there. She said, " When I went there, everything was so clean there was nothing to do! The bed was made and I thought that was fine, ( I always make the bed every morning) the towels were hanging neatly on the racks and looked clean, the dishes were all done . There was nothing to do so I swept the floor and left!" We laughed and told him not to worry; we were fine. However, he demanded she come back today and do her job. So today she arrived soon after we left and found the A/C had been left on. So she called the manager to report our crime!
We apologized when he called us on the beach and told him that in our haste to leave early, we had completely forgotten to turn it off. We do realize how expensive A/C is here and always do turn it off when we leave. In fact this was the only time it had been left on! The call ended and we both thought this whole incident to be so funny. We are both business people and we know how to handle employees. We will leave the owner some extra money for the couple of extra hours of A/C and leave the maid a smaller tip! It will all work out nicely!
We love our condo here and the owner has been very easy to work with. We absolutely have no complaints and really thought it all to be very funny!
This minor annoyance will in no way flavor our decision to rebook. After 12 days our little reports can be somewhat repetitive and this incident gave us something unusal to write about. We also learned that A/C cost $1 per hour here.
So after our crime had been solved , we had pleaded guilty and were then released on bail to enjoy the rest of the day on the beach! The water was warm and calm and free of seaweed! All the seaweed had been washed ashore beyond Pedros and extended towards the north end of the beach.
We went to Andy and Cheryl's for lunch today and were greeted by Cheryl with her warm hugs and "welcome home". I had the margarita buffalo shrimp served with salad and garlic bread and David had the fresh fish and chips. Both dishes were fabulous and with beer and rum punch the bill was $ 52 including a 15% service charge. We always enjoy lunch here when Andy has just received his fresh fish!
We left the beach about 4:45 P.M. and got back to Simpson bay before the bridge went up. We viewed a beautiful sunset from Kimsha beach and went to the Greenhouse to finalize tomorrow's party details and enjoy happy hour. Since we had a big lunch on the beach, we opted for appetizers for dinner tonight. We had potato skins, chicken wings and nachos and a few pusser's painkillers to wash them all down. The bill was under $50 and the food and drinks were great.
We left the Greenhouse and went over to Buccaneer to listen to Ronnie Santano entertain there. We found Georgia and David who had just arrived today and we spent some time with them. We then stopped by the Atrium (our timeshare) to check on a few things and bumped into Todd and MJ who are staying there this week. We arrived home at 9:00 P.M. When we walked in the door, we were shocked to hear the A/C/ going and the condo was really cool! You guessed it; in the maid's haste to leave , she forgot to turn off the A/C! Do you think we should call the manager tomorrow and report this crime?
