Just for clarification, this appears to be the "Irma dump" and not the regular dump that regularly catches fire.

In February it was the Irma dump burning and causing major smoke issues. Much more combustible debris in the Irma dump.

True. What a toxic mess must be in that dump.

Just hope it burns out fast. Not good for the environment but at least it will be turned into ashes until the next pile builds up.

Are these fires being started on purpose to burn the material away or is it an arsonist's work? It seems to me that if it is the latter then better security should be put in place and if caught should be required to assist in the clean up. I suggest this because based upon the decisions/sentences handed down by the court making them work to correct their criminal behavior will have a much better effect.

Much of it is methane bubbling up from years and years of over dumping. It's a disgrace. We smell it here and get smoke all the way over in Cupecoy!

According to the Herald it's the tires that are burning and causing all that black smoke.

Probably depends on the wind direction on any given day.
