The storms that ripped through Brookfield on Tuesday, be they tornados or microbursts, sure did raise havoc with our little country town. Uprooted trees and electric poles caused incredible damage throughout this part of NY and CT. Thank heavens for our generator because they say it’s still gonna’ Be a few more days before power is restored to the town at large and possibly even longer for those of us who need poles set. We fall into latter category. But at least today I can check my emails and such and enjoy some internet usage though I don’t know how long that’s gonna’ last.

Respectfully,

pat

This is the first time we’ve been able to. But I am thankful to God that our problems are miniscule compared to so many of my neighbors. We lost our electric service and a few trees while my neighbors on either side have homes that are inhabitable. And I do have an ‘in’ with an electrician or two so life is good! 😊😊

Hi Pat. Is your electric back on yet? How are your neighbors doing?

The news is our town was declared a disaster area and the good news is assistance is coming in from all over CT and the northeast in general including the National Guard helping clear debris and directing traffic and such.

No power yet besides the noisy generator. It I’ll take it! I don’t know about one set of neighbors since they’re snowbirds and away from FL on vaca and we can’t reach them. But the guy who keeps an eye on their house did get a tarp up to cover the holes. With all the rain I don’t know if it helped but it sure couldn’t have hurt. The neighbor on the other side has vacated and is in a hotel and we don’t know what his status is beyond a lot structural and cosmetic damage to his house, his pool house and his garage apartment roof.

We are very lucky that the trees which came down didn’t land on the house and the damage to our storage shed where we keep the pool stuff is minimal. Our biggest problem, beyond no electric is dealing with the mess. John won’t have to buy firewood for a while assuming we ever get it all cut up and stacked. And the electrician put up our new service so once power is restored to the street we are good to go.

The one thing that made me happy was we didn’t open the swimming pool yet. I’d be a real whiney thing if all that mess was in the pool........😒😒

Of course, here in Florida, our pool is open year round!! Truthfully, I don't get into it in the winter, but it's a whole lot better than looking at a plastic hole in the ground!! Best of luck with getting the mess cleaned up and getting electric restored.

So it’s Sunday evening about 9:30 and we’re still being serenaded by our trusty generator. We went out to dinner and saw incredible devestation everywhere we went. No clue as to the big ‘WHEN’ as in when will the power, tv, internet and telephones be restored. But the really good news is there are crews everywhere from all over and they’re doing their absolute best to get it done. The damage is unbelievable but they’re really busting their collective butts to achieve full restoration. I haven’t seen any Frontier or Spectrum trucks so I’m hoping they’re next but there’s not too much they can do until all the poles are repaired.

I have to admit though, I was pea green with envy when I realized the people on the end of our road FIVE HOUSES AWAY have power back. Patience, pilgrims! I know it will be soon.......😊😊

I remember that feeling well, going to the next town over after the hurricane, when everyone had power, and there was no power anywhere here! Hope you get power back soon. At least you have the generator..

Wow! I can’t tell you how happy I am! Our power was restored at 6:25 this evening so no more flashlights, candles and kerosene lanterns and best of all, no more serenading from that noisy old generator.

Now we just have to deal with Spectrum for tv and internet not to mention our land line phone as well as our business lines. But right now I feel like ‘Scarlet’ so I’ll think about all that tomorrow .....👏👏

Glad your power is back on.

Back when Ike went through, we were down for 6 days while the houses on the opposite side of the street had electric. Just depends on the grid and where ther service comes from. Our personal lines are all underground to our house.

Glad to hear you're back on! The first four days after Irma, we didn't even have a generator and it's amazing how disconnected it made us feel!
