With all of the recent news articles about arrests of high ranking personnel on the island, I fully understand why the kingdom wanted oversight of the funds for the airport and island recovery. Corruption runs rampant.

They are voting these people into power! and everyone says they will do better, and government changes like we change underwear. But then once they are there, the opportunity to have more money than they've ever seen takes over. We have yet to see anyone unscathed or clean from corruption.

LinkThe Dutch have stepped in with some immediate assistance. Hopefully the government of SXM can get the full package of aid for the airport done before the airport can't pay their workers again..
