If the price is right and the schedule acceptable, book it.

It depends on how your connections go. Lately our trips have been AA nonstop from Miami or Delta from Orlando through Atlanta. The Delta planes definitely have more options and are more comfortable. But nonstop is better.

I’ve done Delta direct from JFK And from Bradley via Atlanta. Very happy. Always have done “comfort” seats. We rode coach to Vegas from JFK and it was awful. Fly delta in two weeks down from Westchester through Atlanta. I was able to get a one way ticket for 367 - first class both legs so grabbed it. Figured why not!!!!

Same here, been using AA for almost 30 years. The last couple of years, we used Delta a couple of times(we go twice a year). Very pleased with Delta. Have used them from Bradley(CT) through ATL. Always on time and great service. Will be using them this coming October.

Not sure of your dates but I would not hesitate too long to book if the price is right. If flying from JFK it may not be as impacted as connecting flights via ATL but the flight I booked for Nov. (via ATL) has almost doubled in price over the past few months.

With the mess with AA, the other carriers seem to be able to squeeze more out of the customers for SXM travel.

Our last two trips (pre-Irma) we flew Delta from SAT through Atlanta to SXM and we loved it. Much better than AA. In fact, Delta has become our "favored" airline over the past few years. In our opinion the service is much better and the frequency of "issues" is much lower than other airline options.

Delta Comfort+ is the way to go. We just used them a couple of days ago for our trip to Paris and it was stellar and NO CHANGES during the six months booking to flying time. We will use them for our return from SXM in January

I will admit that if I was in the MIA area I would give the n/s AA (gulp) a try.....N/S is a major plus. We gave up on the JB n/s return to BOS with the extra room price approaching $900 ONE WAY

Can only tell you that must have made 30 plus trips over the years from MIA SXM return with AA and I honestly can't recall ever a problem with timing or anything else on the 2219 flights. Yeah, sat on the runway for 15 mins, lightning delays with luggage, etc, etc, but that happens anywhere................usually fly F/C but actually do sometimes question if it is worth it, some of their newer planes up front are so much more uncomfortable than before and found that the food can be better in Main Cabin. Coming back last week, I actually asked for the economy food cheese plate and was told to pre-order it next time as so much better and the hostess confessed that she wont eat the f/c food!!! However, at the end of the day just want to get there on time as stated!!!! And yes non-stop is the way to go unless you are offered ridiculously cheap prices, but who does that these days?

Yes, if you fly FC on AA you can order a Fruit and Cheese Plate from 1 to 30 days in advance. Unlike the other FC meal choices,, the Fruit and Cheese plate is only available on a pre-order basis.

Among our domestic airlines in the states I would rate Delta far ahead of United and American Airlines. They are excellent at sticking to their schedules and they actually seem to care about customer satisfaction. I have flown Delta from numerous hubs, and twice to SXM from ATL. Flights were on-time coming and going with no unexpected surprises. The other airlines I would consider would be Jet Blue and West Jet out of Canada. Those three would be at the top of my present list.

Somewhat related. Flying from the Midwest, Delta wants to route you thru San Juan to then go to Atlanta. Keep in mind that the Island Hop to SJU is on a code share flight operated by Seaborne Airlines. If you have no baggage fees with Delta, you will still have to pay baggage fees to Seaborne no matter. I have checked and Delta is no help on reimbursement.

Wait. So you fly Delta from the "Midwest," and go nonstop from your home airport to San Juan, then back up to ATL, and then to SXM. Um... Really? I had no idea Delta flew non-stop from any Midwest city to SJU.

It's been my experience that Delta routes Midwest passengers to Atlanta, and then to SXM.

fritzks-- Where is your final destination? Are you talking about a return flight to the US, that you fly SXM--SJU--Atlanta? Possibly that is one routing, but everyone I know that does Delta goes nonstop from SXM to Atlanta, and then on from there.

We've flown Delta several times both out and inbound JFK to SXM and had no issues, although we did fly Delta comfort. At $49 for the upgrade it was a no-brainer but the cost rose to $89 and last time I checked it was $149 pp, one way so doubt we will upgrade. We waited to book to get the best rate which was with Delta this year and not JetBlue.

Just returned from Paris r/t on Delta Comfort+ and it was fantastic. Using Delta for out September LAS trip and out return from SXM in January ...all Comfort+. Can't beat it and I will gladly pay an extra fee to have those seats. Same with JB but their fare prices this year were prohibitive....so...back to Delta

Nope. Always go Wichita thru Atlanta and then to SXM going down. Coming back, the better times are thru SJU then to ATL. At least Delta has better connections then AA did. I envy all you East Coasters.

I'm surprised that more people don't transit through SJU. I often hang out there for a few days either coming or going. Plus, no matter where home is, flights from home to SJU are often cheaper than flights from home to SXM. Immigration in SJU is usually a breeze, as long as you don't come in behind a big plane. Immigration has now moved to the A Concourse. They have one or two Global Entry kiosks, and 10-12 regular kiosks. I've gone through there when I am the entire line. There's a Pre-Check line at security. If you have a Priority Pass membership you can access the Avianca Lounge between terminals B and C.
