We just returned from a fantastic 5 days in New Orleans at The Green House Inn. It is a beautiful restored victorian home on the edge of the garden district. We have never been big fans of B&Bs but this one changed that. Breakfast and snacks were available 24/7. No hot breakfast, seemingly that is not allowed in B&B's here.

It's about a mile to the French Quarter which we walked several times, but you can ride to the French Quarter and all around the Garden District on the street cars or buses. $3 let's you ride all day. The sidewalks on the main streets are good but some of the side streets could be a challenge with broken concrete.

The big plus was the salt water clothing optional pool and hot tub in a lush tropical garden area which is open 24/7. We had a hard time leaving the pool spa area to venture out since it was so relaxing. Our bottom floor room opened right into the garden area so we did not have to get dressed if we didn't want to but clothing must be worn inside the house. You can bring or make your own drinks at the pool but obviously no glass is allowed. There is even a soda machine with beer in it for sale. We have attached some photos, hope they display ok.

The innkeepers were fantastic and the guests were all fun and friendly. We met some great new friends during our stay. There is even a resident dog named Kipling and a Macaw named Rio.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Yes, obviously we would recommend this trip and hotel.

It was a bonus that Southwest had mid day non stop flights from BWI to MSY for under $200. We even had to slip the trip a few weeks due a death in the family and it was no problem for either the Green House Inn or Southwest. The air tickets actually got cheaper so we now have a $50 credit with Southwest.

Forgot to mention in the report that an evening on Frenchmen Street was one of the highlights with live music all over and an open air art market. One Uber driver told us that Frenchmen Street is Bourbon Street after it grew up an got a job. We already have a to-do list for our next NOLA visit including the WWII museum and the Ferry to Algiers. But this will not be before an SXM trip.

Thanks for the report as we are booked there from 10/16 to 10/21. An earlier thread on this forum tipped us off about this hotel and your post has reaffirmed we're making a good choice. This place appealed to us because the photos remind us of the old Marrero's CO BnB in Key West. I will post our thoughts and comparisons when we return.

Hi Jim and Laraine, The WW II museum is well worth the visit, Linda and I went through it when we visited NOLA a couple decades ago and it tells quite a true story!

The museum occupies one of the factory buildings and even has a real LCVP that you can walk into by walking up the open ramp! Well worth a few hours.

Nice Bill, thanks, that's definitely on the list. We heard that they also have a 4D movie experience now with shaking seats and smells. Sounds a bit weird but people rave about it.

Well we are booked again for The Green House Inn on July 24th for 5 nights. Hope things with Covid settle down. If we have to, we have until 3 days before to cancel or reschedule and we will not lose anything on our Southwest Air Tickets.

Sorry for the delay in replying. We postponed our trip to New Orleans to Sept 18 to 23 due to the obvious. It looks like we will go through with it. We have a nice room booked at the Greenhouse Inn right off the pool area.

Sounds like the restaurants are in the Garden District and French Quarter are open for the most part. The late night bars and entertainment are still not in operation but we would not be doing much of that anyway.

If any of you have any recent NOL experience it would be greatly appreciated. Been reading what we can on Tripadvisor WRT general NOL things.

Considering the predicted track of tropical storm Sally, we are hoping for the best for the folks in New Orleans and our upcoming trip. It's supposed to hit land in NOL on Tuesday morning. We have the Green House Inn booked for this Friday (9/18) for 5 nights. I spoke to them today and so far they are optimistic.

Well we just returned from a repeat trip to The Greenhouse Inn in New Orleans. The Greenhouse B&B is still great but unfortunately tropical storm Beta materialized seemingly out of nowhere in the Gulf of Mexico and just sat there during our whole stay. Temps in the low 70's 30 to 40 mph wind and tons of rain made for tough going. We did not use the pool at all but we were able to heat up the Spa for a number of dips. To top it off Rio the talking Macaw was done in by a stray cat a few months back. Kipling the resident doggie is very much alive and kicking.

We spent a lot of time walking around the Garden District and the French Quarter. We also used the streetcars quite a bit, $3 lets you ride anywhere for 24 hours. We also took the ferry to Old Algiers for $1 each way. We did have some great food at Peche, Mr Ed's Oyster house and brunch at the Court of the Two Sisters.

Not sure if it is due to Covid or not but there seemed to be many more wasted and/ or homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks of the French Quarter. For the most part they did not bother anyone but it is a sad situation. Social distancing was really not much of a problem as the City of New Orleans is still in Phase 2 and requires facemasks pretty much everywhere, even on the sidewalks. The rest of Louisiana is in phase 3.

Guess every trip cannot be perfect but we did make the most of it and we would still recommend the Greenhouse and the great staff.

Sorry for the weather issues. I tell you, 2020 truly s*cks... I truly hope that 2021 is a GREAT year, to make up for it..
