Well I was too lazy to report every day so here it is: I now understand why Karakter is not as busy as before. First, the service there is not as friendly and efficient as it was before. Second, the food is just meh.... Third, there is a new sheriff in town called Roxxy on KimSha beach that attracts a “cool” crowd with music, super modern Vegas style beach settings and very nice but a bit more expensive menu. Also, the El Zafiro is taking business from them as well with a nice food menu, larger beach area with way more space between chairs.
The restaurant that we enjoyed last year at the Porto Cupecoy, the one that was down the stairs on a right, has been changed into the Tex Mex diner. The same chef and the same owner but they decided to differentiate themselves from the places upstairs like Mario’s etc. They still run a champagne bar upstairs with very nice selection of mixed drinks. The chef recognized us from the last year and made us an amazing food. He is really talented, because to make mussels “Mexican style” isn’t easy and my girls couldn’t have enough of those! His tuna tartar is still the best we ever had!

Not exactly sure where you're talking about with the stairs to the right at Cupecoy, but I think you're talking about the place we ate last time, which was just kind of a tapas kinda place and not too exciting.

And I'm guessing you were impressed with Roxxy? Are they still charging a 'house' charge for entertainment, even if there is no entertainment?

Yes Carol, that’s the one, Tex mex tapas style. It’s basically right on a water were Mario is..
Roxxy can be impressive for people looking for the Vegas style beach. To me that was too much... We didn’t pay for chairs or any other entertainment even thou there was a DJ playing the music for the end of regatta party. The guy who is the manager there now used to run this Tex Mex place before it became a Tex mex, lol. So he remembered us from the last year and we only paid for food and drinks. But I was told that they charge $30 for 2 chairs and umbrella and $60 for a large square bed.

We also went for dinner today to the Moulin Fou in Maho, daughter was craving their goat cheese salad. Surprisingly, the food this time was very good! We had an onion soup that was excellent, goat cheese salad was also superb and we ended up sharing (the times are tough, stock market is down, lol) the main dish- a huge chunk of meat, braised lamb shank with the mushed potatoes truffle something... that was also very tasty! My wife had a lobster soufflé but she didn’t really like it.
They also are offering the soufflé for dessert now but we were too full for that, so till next time.

Thanks for the report on Moulin Fou. Sorry, they are offering a lobster soufflé for dessert? That seems weird, to me.

Guessing from your words you’ve had negative experiences at LMF? We’ve always had excellent meals and service there so I’m glad to hear they’re back to what we’ve always considered to be their norm. This is usually our go-to spot for a great meal and convenient location for us based on where we are staying.

Respectfully,

pat

I am sorry, and surprised, to hear you have had a negative experience at Le Moulin Fou as my meals there have always been top notch. That goat cheese salad is one of my favorite dishes on the whole island. Big enough for two! And the blue cheese that's also on the salad is superb!

Let me clear this: Le Moulin Fou used to be our absolutely favourite place up until right before Irma. They have changed the chef back then and the food became lame. We came back last year and all the wait stuff who we knew for many many years were gone except the one guy who is always at the front inviting people in.
This year we only went because of our daughter. It was a pleasant surprise as I said.
Carol, the soufflé wasn’t for dessert, it was an appetizer. There was lobster, Emmental and one more.
They also had three different soufflé for dessert.
