I'm going to keep this somewhat short as I spent about an hour yesterday and then lost the darn thing. Have to get some work done back at the workplace. If anyone has specific questions just ask or PM. Ok.
Saturday 2/28
Leave Boston on time AA to St T, great flight, crew, arrive early. Looking out the window warms my soul as that plane lands. We get in about 215pm, have a 4pm Tortola FF and hang in CA, enjoying a couple of drinks, sun, and a pile of shrimp. Tortola FF waits until 420 for 4 women coming in on delayed flight, which at first was agrivating because of our excitement but was actually a cool thing to do. Four women from VA who were camping for a week.
Ferry ride a breeze, customs 20 minutes, Moorings Shuttle slight agrivation (waited for no-one) quick ride to Moorings, there by about 545pm. NP's. Bobbys' shows up about 610, all accounted as ordered, great looking fruits and cheeses etc.
Moorings boat "show" started at 630 and it stunk quite frankly. I won't go deep with it here but let me know and I'll get into it. We had a delightful night on the dock, showers, rum, etc. A bit tired from travel.
Sunday 2/29
We get ourselves squared off, get PO'd one more time with Moorings, set out for Norman and the Bight. Sail most of the way but storm front coming from east looks ugly; motor in, grab mooring, sleep through rain, early light chow at Pirates and to sleep early (after a punch on Willy T's).
Monday 3/1 (my 50th) winds are strong blowing to 30 and after beating east for an hour we tail off and head to West End. Motor through harbor and then make the cross to JVD and Great Harbor. Drop anchor and have a delightful afternoon in relative shelter, lots of sun. Dinner that nigt at Foxys was outstanding (email for details)...drop Ms Elvis at boat and motor in for a cold one back at bar. Power outage for a short time was my message to go to turn in for the night. Great music coming from shore-bar next to Foxys, sorry I forgot the name.
Tuesday 3/2 We head into shore for a light bite, take a small hike and after running into freind from home town who is "brew master" at Foxys (inquire for details) we decide to head out in strong winds and seas reportedly at 8-10 feet. Wanted to see Sydneys and after experiencing seas first hand, we roll around the corner to Little Harbor. Wrong move. LH is facing straight into the wind. Blasting now to easily 30, we leave and pull jib only trip accross bay to Sopers. Average lunch at Pussers (found muchg better Roti later, email for ?) but a hot shower, fab sunset one boat, we head over to Jolly Rogers. Anyone going there in the next few weeks who finds my wedding ring at split on east end of dock will be rewarded!
Ms Elvis trips at slight drop in deck, Mr is helping her up when a Brit lands on top of me, then his wife. Six of us howling with laughter hed to their boat "Fruitcake". Great folks, drinks, laughs.
Wednesday 3/3
We head out early on Ophelia (645am) and decide to run up the Drake for Trellis. Looks sheltered, isn't. Bad decision. Beat up the Drake for 2 hours and finally drop sails and motor around Beef Island. Foulies on but still wet and big water straight at us. Moor nad go ashore for some provisions. Mooring collector is thankful for beers we gave him that someone else gave us, offers free bbottle of wine at Last Resort. Going there anyway, had great meal (write for details) and saw Tony do the show. It's Wednesdays only but a howl!
Met Rockport MA native (don't ask how, very embaressing!) who tips us on Little Harbor Peter Island for protected, beautiful anchorage. Boy was he right.
Thursday 3/4 We motor around Beef, haul jib only, and blast down the Drake at over 9 knots occasionally. Fantastic sail, right into harbor (two white roofs BTW, only one on chart) and anchor in 15 feet with stern line to shore. Outragious snorkling, tons of sun, mild swirling winds. God bless Angels of Deliverance, who get free beer from us in exchange for trash haul and a baguette, among other things. Dropped a second bow anchor for POM, but awake to what sounds like scraping at 2 am. Investigation proves it to be anchor chain, depth meter still good and boat not moving much. (5' swing side to side).
Friday 3/5 Coffee and breakfast on boat. Delightful. We head out and decide for the Bight again as last time was mostly clouds. Short downwind sail again, grabbed a mooring, enjoyed a great afternoon/evening on boat.
Saturday 3/6 We hike up the hill off harbor for beautiful sights. 1 pm off to RT, finally pull the main and sail for 3 hours in Drake, little chewy but a blast. Back into Moorings for showers etc. We later took cab to Bombas but are to pooped to party so we wrap up around 10.
Sunday 3/7 Departure briefing, showers (once they came back on), cab from hell to BI Airport for Air Sunshine to St T.
One stop at VG (worst landing strip I've ever been on) and then off to ST T. for cattle-line customs check. AA back to Boston, on-time departure, early arrival in Beantown (home of the world champion NE Patriots!!!) and back to cold, gray weather. Snows the next morning on my way to work.
Ok so this was longer than I thought. DIF BIGTIME!!!
Fire away with any questions on:
Moorings, boat Ophelia, Sopers, Pussers, JVD, where we found moorings, price, AA, Angels of Deliverence, how I lost the ring, fell off the transom in Trellis, white roofs, Air Sunshine, and Bob the brewer at Foxys. We had zero bugs btw, anywhere.
