Our group of 8 is booked for charter with VIYC 2/25 - 3/6 and we are considering an overnight mooring at Lovango Cay Beach Resort for dinner. We're also interested in spending the afternoon indulging in a little luxury at the Lovango Beach Club but having a hard time justifying $95/head. Just wondering if any TTOL users have checked it out? Would also welcome any comments/reviews of Bikinis on the Beach or ZoZo's at Caneel Bay.

Great timing, Finnman! We are booked for a mooring and dinner tomorrow night (actually Amy, at this late hour, it’s tonight). Super excited to check it out. Already, I can tell you that in our first three nights of our first USVI-only charter, we have developed a fresh and exciting perspective of what’s going on on the US side of the invisible border. Today at Honeymoon Beach on St. John, for example, the place was rocking with a great vibe. They’re getting right down here and I really think they are tuned in to the opportunity to make the USVI the place to be.

As for Lovango, I’ll be sure to post a report after we visit. Meanwhile, I can tell you that we ran into several people on the beach today who have been there and they loved it.

For now, I’m just sitting here at Caneel Bay feeling like I died and went to Heaven. Do you guys ever stop and wonder how fortunate we are to be part of this?!!

Enjoy Shifty! I will look forward to your report and cannot wait to get there. Pretty breezy there for you it looks like. We are planning to include St Croix if conditions are favorable. Yes - I often wonder how we managed to discover bareboating! Always have couples waiting for someone to drop out so they can come, haha.

Hi! We just returned from 11 days on St. John land based. We spent two of our days at the Lovango Beach Club in one of the cabanas. The cabanas come with champagne and fancy water. IT WAS FABULOUS!! We loved it so much. The restaurant and food and service were all impeccable. We had so much fun just at the pool that we didn't do any of the hikes or check out the other side of the island, but that is on our list for our April trip. Since you have so many people, a cabana might be a great deal. I would call to check that out. There is also a cute little retail village. It is small, but they have a little book shop and resort style clothes for sale. They also have the usual t-shirts and hats. When covid is finally over, they have a cute bar with swings to enjoy a cocktail. We took the ferry from St. John for the day which was 11:00 - 5:30. As I said, we spent two days there and will book another two for our April trip. One note is that it is not a sandy beach, but, apparently, the snorkeling is phenomenal. Sunday is sushi day. We met the owner and his son who both wanted to make sure everything was perfect. They are very interested in making their guests happy. I hope you try it. I don't think you will regret it. We certainly did not. Well worth the money.

We spent the day/night at Honeymoon (Bikinis on the Beach) and loved it. The beach is beautiful, we could swim into the beach and there is bar/food service on the beach so you don't even have to move from your spot to get a drink or food.

Should have mentioned that you do need to get there relatively early to get a mooring ball off of Honeymoon, especially on the weekend. If there aren't any balls right at Honeymoon you can get a ball outside of Caneel and dinghy over.

Just went to St John from 12/27 - 1/3. We did one night at Lovango on their public mooring balls, only three total public balls are available. There are also five mooring balls for reservation only, I recommend making reservations as soon as you can since it is limited. We actually liked the public mooring balls better because they’re closer to shore and less susceptible to wind and waves from what we could tell.
We did dinner at the restaurant and it was really good. Try the sea urchin gnocchi, you will love it! The fresh catch of the day was swordfish and it was also very good. The bill was around $150 for two of us, which was an entree and a couple drinks each. It isn’t a cheap dinner but it was our one “big night” for dinner ashore and we enjoyed and felt it was worth it.
I cannot speak to any other amenities ashore, as we only did dinner and saw their boutique shops. I didn’t feel inspired to purchase anything from the shops, but there are some options if you’re in the buying mood. We did not feel it was worth spending extra money on the day pass for pool and beach access, so we simply enjoyed some good snorkeling off the boat.

We reserved a ball for Jan. 3. It was spectacular. Great staff and a really fine resort. A ball costs $35, though to reserve one you also are required to make a dinner reservation. And that’s just fine by me, as we had an excellent meal with incredible ambiance. Highly recommend the place and am very glad to see another much needed offering on the US side of the VI.
