Just got back April 9th from a 10 day Southern Caribbean Cruise on the Sun Princess.

First off, we have been on 15 cruises over the past 19 years so we are not rookies. Many have sailed more than us as well, so we wanted to clear the air before we start this report.

We boarded the ship on March 30th. We decided to get lunch since we had not eaten much that morning. Went up to the Horizon Dining area on Lido deck. First thing we noticed was how crowded the buffett area was. Then everybody was bumping into one another so this was not a good thing. It is just not designed well. Then I personally found the food here to be very average with limited options for salad toppings. Barely changed all week. Meats were way overcooked like sliced roast beef which was very dry almost like overcooked turkey breast. The best things were the bread. Coffee was not very good all week. Fruit was many times not ripe. Breakfast was average all week. I don't want to get to detailed but dinner was not that good for the first 5 days. I had salmon the first night and was way overcooked and all the food on the dinner plate was luke warm at best. Most evenings the dinner options were not that good in our opinion. Many people we talked to agreed. This was our third Princess cruise in a row and it has been a steady downhill experience. The food and service got much better after we complained. The first 3 nights meals took a minimum 2 hours! This is not good in our opinion with 1 1/2 hrs max should be normal. After we complained, service was quite good and the food was a little better. One night was enough at the pizza restaurant. Not that good in our opinion. We did not try the Steakhouse so can't comment.
Service for drinks was so-so, just depended where you were. Some areas had no service at all so you had to go hunt down a bar. Other times there was too many servers around, more like they were unorganized.
Entertainment was ok. We dislike their theater seating vs. lounge seating we typically see on other ships. One comedian was great while the other we walked out on. We prefer Vegas style shows while all we see on Princess is Broadway stuff. The piano bar are was nice. Eric Stone was the entertainer but again he was all about show tunes and did not mix it up much. We prefer guys like Bert Stratton on the Golden. Catch his act if you ever find him. He is great! The Wheelhouse lounge had a good band so we were there allot. Also liked the casino and was there at the 3 card poker table every night.
They worked on the ship quite a bit when docked whish was no problem except on deck 7 where the walking deck is. They blocked it off several times at different times so this inconvienced allot of the walkers and they wern't a happy bunch.
We have been to St Thomas, St Maarten and Princess Cays several times so won't comment on these. St Vincent was very tropical and more like Costa Rica or Panama in this respect. A poor island though. This is a place to go to sail the Grenadines for a week or so. I feel the same way about Antigua although we did not get the the resort areas on either island. Barbados was more dry looking like Antigua or St Maarten. Of the islands we have been to in the caribbean, we like Barbados, St Maarten (SXM) and Gr Cayman as our favorites. For a fun time we like SXM, but also like Gr Cayman and Barbados for other reasons but would go to them all equally.

So that's about it. Overall we enjoyed the cruise but will switch to RCCL, Celebrity or Holland America for our next cruises. Princess needs to get back to the details and improve the food. Alan
