Not sure I understand what your concern is - almost every hotel has internet service available for the guests - usually WiFi but some just by ethernet connection and you can find WiFi in scores of restaurants and bars around the island. It will either be free or on a fee for use basis - depends on where you are.

I'm not a techie but I've traveled all over the world (including San Juan) and managed to find internet service just about everywhere I've been.

Puerto Rico is covered by ATT LTE you could just get a no contract hot spot and activate it for the time that you are there. Or get an unlocked iPhone with tethering for a couple of months with no contract.

We're from Canada as well, and have great luck in the US incl Puerto Rico with Roam Mobility. Assuming you have an unlocked smartphone tho. Go to London Drugs, buy their SIM, go online to their site, and choose your plan. Gives free calls and more than enough data. I don't like relying on wifi when travelling because we use the device when out and about for the GPS, finding restaurants, best beaches, etc.
