Hi everyone. I'm looking at flights for our 2 week charter in June / July. I found a decent rate out of ATL, but it requires an overnight in SJU on the way down. I've seen comments on FB boards saying to avoid the overnight in SJU. (I'd also like to avoid STT after being there a couple of weeks ago - it was a madhouse.)

Can anyone give me more insight into the overnight at SJU?

TIA,
Rebecca

We enjoy breaking up the trip and staying over in SJU and have done it several times.

Avoid the airport hotel. There are many options a short cab ride away. Our favorite is the El Convento but it’s not a budget option. There are many internationally branded hotels close to the beach closer to the airport.

Overnight in San Juan is great if you have the time! Plenty to see and taxis are reasonable. We usually stay in one of the beachside hotels, but the Sheraton Convention Center has a nice casino if you're into that.

Thanks, this is very helpful. We won't have much time as it is only a 12-hour layover. Unfortunately, the flight just went up by $150/ ticket while I was looking at it, so I'll watch it for a few days. The Hampton Inn near the airport looks good though.

For twelve hours we'd stay at the airport hotel, which we've done many times. If you have longer, check out Marriott's AC Hotel, which is near the water in Condado and has a terrific restaurant a block away.

If you stay at the airport hotel do you need to fill out PR portal?

We stay at the airport hotel…we get in late and leave early the next day for VG…very convenient….not worth leaving the airport for another hotel unless you have time to use their facilities.
