I guess we are pretty pedestrian in our alcohol choices at home these days. We mostly drink wine, I drink Bacardi Limon (usually with diet 7), and Eric occasionally drinks Tanqueray. I thought I had a bottle of Jack Daniels in our liquor cabinet, which is way in the bottom of the storage cabinet and i rarely get in there. Unfortunately, no Jack, but i DID discover one partial bottle of Ma DouDou banana vanilla, as well as one UNOPENED bottle of same. banana Also found an open bottle of Grand Marnier and Kahlua! Does Kahlua go bad?? thinks I tasted it and it seemed ok. The Grand Marnier was good too! grin I also found a small bottle of some rot-gut rum from Jamaica, unopened, but age apparently did NOT improve the flavor of that!! sick Also found two bottles of port, both open, which I have no idea why we would have bought port? Perhaps someone gave it to us?? One tasted absolutely disgusting, the other one I may try to use in a sauce.

So what 'treasures'--or not--have you discovered in your liquor cabinet??

I still have an unopened bottle of Guyavaberry liquor bought back in 1999 along with an unopened bottle of Ma DouDou Banana too bought same year. Along with all kinds of partial liquors that are just gathering dust that someone could stock a nice bar with. I primarily drink single malt scotch neat, dirty vodka martinis on ice and aged rums. Wife likes wine so I help her out with that too.

I still have about 7year old coffee flavored bottle of vodka, well aged Kahlua and about 15 years old bottle of Absinthe. Nobody drinks it but I don’t have a heart to toss it.

Life is short, travel the World.

Mine doesn't last long enough for me to rediscover. Can I blame the wife?

I suppose this should go in the " Recipes" folder but there isn't a recipe here. Just a suggestion--those liqueurs and Banana-Vanilla MaDouDou all are quite spectacular when used in poke-and-pour pound cake. Use a skewer to pole holes down through a cake, and gently pour or use a brush and baste. Easy peasy summer dessert--with some fresh fruit and whipped cream--special touch.

I save stuff. Bottle of Southern Comfort that’s 40 years old, a 1976 Cordon Rouge and a 1972 Chateau Latour are probably better left in the bottle.

Talk about old how about an unopened bottle of 1986 Marilyn Merlot. Have others unopened in the series too. The 76 Latour might surprise you depending on how it was stored. Decant for sure.

OMG! 1972 LaTour? Damn. That's good wine. Let it breathe for 45 min to an hour.

Funny thing is I bought it in Vermont around 1983. It was in a box of mixed bottles that looked like they were marked down to get rid of. I paid 12.00 for it. I am not sure I will ever open it. The bottle looks good in my cellar.

I have an unopened bottle of Tullamore Dew that was given to me by a rugby player from Ireland back in the mid 70s. Those were the days!

Weird. Worked fine for me. $64 bottle is what it said about that LaTour.

Now it works for me but shows it at $645 not $64.

What I've been reading the 2019 vintage looking to be a good one but looking like 2022 harvest will be a bust in France.

Oh my, I was just whining today about the state of the liquor cabinet. I really hate to think what is in there as we soooo seldom clean it out. And living on the Whiskey Trail with a husband who has an undying passion of said beverage, you can imagine the amount of 1/4 full bottles in there. He is always finding a new favorite and around here their are 100+ quality options. With a 20 something in the house still, Ma Dou Dou don't last. It's like the Snickers in the Halloween candy!!

I wish I had an old bottle of Ma DouDou in my liquor cabinet! That stuff doesn't last in my house!!! When ever we get "home-sick" we break out a shot or two!!

I'd wager there is a DouDou in ours. Funny how you bring back several bottles, save for the right occasions and the forget about it. I will have to make sure before our trip so we can restock if necessary.

Our cabinet is a vintage backing hutch that was my mothers.

I have two liquor cabinets, one for the everyday stuff and one lockable cabinet that's for my collection of bourbons, scotches and ports. The regular one usually gets cleaned out whenever our (adult) kids and their friends come for ski or beach weekends.
