Heading to BVI for a weeklong bareboat charter soon. We've been there more than 15 times over several decades, but haven't been back to Cane Garden Bay since the storms. Would you include an overnight there in your top 6 stops for the week? Would you include an overnight in Cane Garden Bay in your top ten stops for the week?

No - it has gotten very busy, especially when cruise ships are in (back in force now). Swell has also been nasty in there this winter.

I'll offer a different opinion.IF the cruise ships are not there or you arrive after about 2.30 when most have left CGB is still a great place to overnight unless we have a big north swell. You have a choice of dining..Indigo House down the beach is our favorite and many nights you have a choice of good music...Sunday nights at The Elm you have bar b q and the amazing Elmtones band..truly world class ( Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have played with them!) For breakfast we love Rhymer's right on the sand..basic but friendly and wonderful...Many love The Paradise Club...sadly Quito is not at his place most of the time..but Tracy or Bella at his beach bar are gems...

Yes, it is a great anchorage. At night there are no cruise ship guests and the swell is only a problem when it comes from the north; this is easy to check beforehand using your favorite weather app, I like to use Windguru BVI. If you look at the app right now, you'd see that CGB is to be avoided for the next couple of days! I 'm in St. Martin and the north swell has just subsided and I've gone ashore for the first time in 3 days - the waves were actually washing OVER the dinghy dock until this morning.

Addnendum - I posted 12 seconds after @manpot and basically said the same thing smile

I agree with Manpot and Zanshin. CGB has become one of our faves.....assuming no ground swell.

The wonderful thing about sailing is that everyone has their favorite fields/anchorages 🙂. While CGB is not one of my favorites, for various reasons, I do agree that Indigo is worthy of a visit - lovely place. Vishaal is a master mixologist.

We had Cane Garden Bay off our list of stops post hurricanes and just started going back. We have tried to go on non-cruise ship days but that didn't work out on one of our trips and man was that entertaining! We decided that as long as it wasn't an everyday experience the cruise ship folks can offer hours of entertainment. You just have to be in the right mindset. Plus you can just walk a bit down the beach and find more seclusion. Funny, we were there in May with my son and his girlfriend and they both loved it and asked why we hadn't gone there before (he didn't remember trips from before the hurricanes). When we were there in January, we were with my brother and his family, who visit at least once a year. They said the same thing! I guess CGB is back on the list. As most others have said, definitely take it off the list if there is a north swell.

Sitting on the Beach at the Elm listening to great music as I type. CGB has great entertainment options most nights

I’m there right now. Seems like once the cruise ships are gone they’re pretty tired. Everything closed down by 10pm (and we’re the stragglers!). Myetts is usually the last one standing. It’s very quiet at night.

Don’t overnight on Monday as INDIGO House is closed.

Cheers,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but from my searching this seemed as good a place as any to ask my question. Appreciate Mal's recommendation of Rhymer's for breakfast. I'm curious what has come of the space that at one time was known as Sailor's Rest above the dinghy dock at CGB? Is anyone operating out of that space now. We used to so enjoy the wonderful breakfasts there with the quiet relaxing atmosphere while watching the pelicans dive-bomb their morning catch. Everything was fantastic, but the hash brown potatoes were just perfectly seasoned and cooked.

Last I heard it was converted to an event space for Quito-s. Don't know if it ever took off.

Interesting. Seems if nothing else it would be an ideal space to sell ice cream and ice and beer, etc. It's such a prime location. The views and breezes are just perfect and the people and bird watching, plus the convenience of access from both the dinghy dock and beach and the road side. Seems a shame for it to sit empty. Really miss Sailor's Rest...
