Hello!

We've got some free time in July and are thinking chartering a small sailboat (30ft) out of Tortola, for about a week from July 15 - 24 or so.

What's the weather like for sailing, and are restaurants and orther facilities, like marina for water and fuel still open that late into the year? August is shut down from what I can tell.

Love July in the BVI's..lovely,balmy weather, steady trades and everything is open.Do know that we have"Christmas in July" (not sure of the date this year,) but our Puerto Rican friends descend on the BVI's to raft and party. You might want to avoid overnighting in their favorite spots..CGB,Savannah Bay on VG..

Not seeing a lot of bareboats in the 30' range anymore.

The lack of AC can be an issue in July. Winds tend to be light. Visibility if your a diver is however excellent!

how many people? Couples? Fuel and water not an issue in July or early August. I would put a boat with generator/ AC high on my list of priorities , especially during this time of year.... Rates and availability are great during this time of year.

With the issues and cost getting to and from the BVI I would strongly suggests a 7 day charter. Any of the companies can get you a boat. I don’t however believe you will find a 30 foot boat. Most companies now start at about 38 feet if not larger. I strongly suggest AC which probably means 45 feet in a monohull and 40 feet for a catamaran.

I believe BVI Yacht Charters has a 30 footer, Peanut. We saw her out on charter a couple weeks ago.

We chartered a Jeanneau 349 from BVI yacht charters (Naya) in January. She is in the mid 30ft range but was nice for a couple. The v-berth would not be good for a tall couple though.

The charter company was good in all aspects.

I beg to differ - when at anchor there is always a breeze and that keeps conditions acceptable aboard. Only in marinas, where there's no wind, or during rainshowers when hatches are closed, is it uncomfortable aboard. All boats will have 12VDC fans that move air around sufficiently. W hat is certain is that a 30-ish foot long monohull won't have a genset or A/C. My problem in the summer when the winds die down is with mosquitos. When the typical trades are blowing there's no need for flyscreens or a bed mosquito net aboard; but when the wind stops the mozzies arrive... and they are hungry...

We sail in July every year and we are already booked for the week of July 15th, 2023. We love July there as it is relatively uncrowded (as long as you avoid Christmas in July). The swells are typically not too large and the wind is usually around 15kts although it can vary. We have not had issues with mosketos. We do always charter a boat with a generator for Air Conditioning. There can be seaweed and jellyfish so watch for those. In genneral I would say don't hesitate to go in July! Partying with the Puerto Rican contingent during Christmas in July can be alot of fun but it will be crowded and very noisy. If you like to party it's great as they are a fun loving and very welcoming bunch of people in our experience.
