I can’t say this often enough and this is possibly the third or fourth time I’ve posted about our experience but stay with me, please.

A couple of years ago, on a particularly rainy evening, we had dinner plans to meet friends at Marks Place, hoping like crazy the rain would stop and we’d be fine. It did so we drove to Marks and had a great evening eveng with our friends though the rain started up again with a ferocity that shocked us.

What to do now? We had to get back to BSV even though friends asked us to spend the night at their home. We headed out when there was a slight lull in the rain but sadly, the lull didn’t last long.

This was possibly the scariest car ride I’ve ever taken in my life. Debris was washing down onto the road from the abutting hillside - rocks, mud, etc., and the rain water was actually causing our car to slide sideways. We made it up and down the hill but still had to decide the best route home. At the foot of the hill we headed toward the French side and the causeway bridge, knowing there would be some flooding going our normal route through Kole and Simpson Bays. What we didn’t know was the potential depth of the water on the route we chose. It was so deep……….

I would hate for anyone to unwittingly make the trip we took that night. Dark roads, sheeting rainfall and deep waters on the flat roads we traversed all served to scare the beJesus out of us. I was amazed my DH stayed as calm and in control as he did. This was absolutely the scariest island drive I’ve ever made and I will never again disregard the potential road flooding warnings.

Please Peeps, take the warnings seriously and stay safe and dry in your accommodations if the flooded road warnings are raised during your visit.

Respectfully,

pat
