How does the nude area at San Souci compare to Orient Beach in terms of age, crowds, etc? With Southwest airlines now servicing Jamaica, we are going to give Couples a try, we think. Any input or advice is appreciated!

I would offer nothing compares to Orient Beach and the SXM experience. Couples has its own unique charm.

I think Couples does AN all-inclusives better than anyone. An important distinction is Couples is totally nude as opposed to clothing optional if that is a consideration.

The average age is approximately 47 - 50. The beach is nice but many use water shoes to enter as it is a bit rocky. The more social area is by the pool and the swim up bar is a great center for socializing. They have renovated the area and I understand robust pool volleyball games are now an option.

People were for the most part very friendly and quite easy to get to know.

They do open the beach to textiles near sunset so all resort guests can enjoy the beautiful sunset from the beach. This does provide the opportunity for some gawking if that concerns you.

Overall, we love the resort and will probably return in 2015.

Let me now if you need anything more specific.

Thanks! Great info! That is exactly what I was looking for. How many couples would you estimate are on the AN side during an average day in late April? Just curious if it 8 to 10 or 30?

Also, is there any evening activity on the AN side? Can you have dinner over there, for example? Is there any entertainment? Thanks again!

I could well be wrong, but I didn't think SS had an "AN side"?? I thought there was just a beach there. Haven't stayed there myself though. Grand Lido Negril (or whatever the heck they call themselves these days) technically has a c/o side but unless something has changed drastically for the better there, can't really recommend them.

Carol,

All Couples resorts except Couples Swept Away have AN facilities. They are all very different and have their own pros and cons.

FINTS Girl,

The participation will vary with the overall mindset of the hotel guests. It is a really large beach area that may have 6-10 couples. The pool area is more popular and will have at least that many.

At least once per week, the resort used to have a party over there. It was a textile affair with a DJ. On other nights, the hot tub and pool are available to enjoy CO. After sunset the mandatory nude policy is no longer enforced. There will be couples with and without suits at night. There is also generally a security person in the area after nightfall.

Some guests have arranged evening parties with a bartender. This can be done for a cost but I cannot remember how much. I have never heard of anyone having dinner over there but I am sure it is possible for a price. BTW, they do bring lunch to the AN side so there is no reason to dress to go to the textile area of the resort to eat during the day.

Sorry, I know they have BEACH there, but I didn't think there was a separate nude SIDE, like there is at Grand Lido or used to be at Braco. I could be wrong though, as I haven't been there.

It is an all nude beach with pool, bar, bathroom and lunch facilities. There are no hotel rooms there like Braco. Not really a problem except you have to cover up to go to the beach.

OK, that was what I thought and that was what I meant about there not being a 'nude side' or whatever.
