Today is my last full day here. I need to get gas and make a stop to check on a friend. I will likely spend the day here, between the beach and under the pavilion. I also want to talk to Doug as Pieter from No1SXM has the same situation with Starlink but his is working perfectly. Coffee outside under the pavilion and a very heavy rain after watching the Icon of the Seas pass by.

A quick run to Le Sucriere and a stop to see Kereen at Reveil Martin and a tropical smoothy there. I gassed up the car, just under $28 for 21L at Sol across the causeway. I used the self-service pump and when I went in to prepay, the attendant said “no problem just pump your gas and come back in and pay”. That puts gas at just over $5/gallong

Some ocean time and I decided a burger from Mark’s Place sounded good so I headed there. Large burger, fries and salad with 2 beers for $17 with no SC added this time.

The Horny Toad had to make some changes to their Starlink but it seems to be working fine now. The “mobile” thing is/was the problem so they went another route but at substantially more $$, but they have to have internet to operate. From what I understand, this mobile thing for Starlink is used by many on the Dutch side but some ae being shut down, as that is what happened here.

You are now caught up.

That first picture really tugs at my heart strings. A most familiar view. I prefer my morning coffee on the balcony enjoying that view.

I have not spent much time on the balcony due to the heat. 89 right now with "feels like" at 104.

More beach time here at The Horny Toad.

Several planes taking off over the beach the past few days also.

Sadly, the trash/littering situation only gets worse. I picked up 6 bottles today at the alleyway beside Horny Toad that leads to the beach.

I cut myself one day short on my coffee supply but Debbie was kind enough to share some that had been left by a previous guest.

Jackie was the maid during my stay and you can not ask for any better service than from her and Cherry when she is here. They have about 50 combined years between them so they know what they are doing. Towels and bedding are changed on a schedule and the room is serviced daily, including making the bed, empty trash, make sure their is ice cubes available and doing any dishes. The kitchen is fully equipped for those would desire to cook in.

The Horny Toad is closing most of Sept. for some room maintenance and other matters that need attention. It is usually very slow in Sept. and some of the work they will be doing could not be done with guests here. It is still my favorite place to stay on the island.

I wondered whether there was daily maid service there.

Just read a report from the Sint Maarten government that it is illegal to use Starlink on the Dutch side as they don't have a license

I guess for the "mobile" system. That seems to be the problem.

Ok, to further update today.

More beach time here and then Lee's for HH. I had a nice visit with Jordan, he is always interesting to talk to.

I was not really hungry and wanted something different so after Lee's I decided to head to Porto Cupecoy to try Altro. While the entire area was NOT busy, it was a very pleasant experience.

I opted for the 3 course meal for $39. Lobster bisque, mushroom risotto and dessert. Two wines and excellent service, I asked for tap water but was charged for bottled water but that was taken care of. No SC added so my total was $55 and I left a tip in cash. Other than they were not busy, it was a very nice last meal.

Just got home and saw all your reports from the days without wifi, smiled and said I need a beer because I've got some reading to do. grin Thanks for all your reports, I'm surprised that the traffic is still backed up on occasion at this time of the year. It seems like every visit for us lately in high season we are turning around and saying "OK Plan B". I had that cheeseburger, fries and salad at Mark's Place on our last visit. It was cheap and 8 oz of beef, so I decided that I couldn't finish everything, but I did finish the cheeseburger. Safe travels home tomorrow JD.
