Grand Lido Negril will close April 26. The current owners plan to reopen it in the fall as the Royalton Negril.

It will be interesting to see what changes are in the works for this once premier property...

Huh. They have been talking about doing renovations for a couple of years. They are sadly needed, for sure.

We heard from a cabbie that spends most days parked outside GLN's front door that they are doing a complete tear down and rebuild to be complete for fall of 2016 as opposed to this fall. Talking 4 story for more capacity.

Yes, I also heard that they will be doing a complete tear down of the resort. Can't remember exactly when it was supposed to be completed, but not this year.

I think the new resort is a family resort, so no nudity.

No plans have been approved by the counsel.
I hope the 4 stories and units over the bay don't materialize.

I saw the other day a story in the Gleaner (maybe??) that said there were some questions over the plans. Both of those things seem to be really bad news, but don't know whether it will be a case of 'money talks'..

Based on past decisions, you're right. In Jamaica money is the determining factor in a lot of bad decisions.

..not that JA is at all unusual in the Caribbean, or in the world, for that matter, in that respect.

Does anyone know what the actual status of the approval of the over water bungalows and 4?? story plan is? I admit that I sometimes read the Trip Advisor Negril section to see what's going on and geez louise!! I am astounded that TA deletes and/or closes any topics about the subject..

Knew it was going to happen soon, but still depressing, for those who experienced Grand Lido, when it WAS Grand. Or.. When people used to called it the "Grand Yuppie". Please post if you know anything more about what will actually happen there.
