We will be going to Anegada on our next trip in April and on previous trips we have always gone to Loblolly beach. We do like the beach and snorkeling at Loblolly. We would like to try Cow Wreck for a change. Which one do you think is better and why?
Thanks

If I had to choose only one, it would be Cow Wreck, no question. Best view from the bar stool....right on the beach! Adirondack and chaise chairs for lounging all day. Great conch fritters from conch carried in straight from the surf. Ring toss game to add a little fun. Oh, and the Cow Killer!

We are planning on both in May -- Loblolly first for some snorkeling, then liming at Cow Wreck.

Completely agree. Horses and courses, snorkelling is not so good at Cow Wreck but beach and bar are great.

Definitely try Cow Wreck out...especially since you've already done Loblolly...

The proximity to the beach is a huge plus, and I personally think it's prettier for some reason, but that's just my opinion and probably has something to do with the bar being so close to the beach.

And you can walk west of Cow Wreck around the point and have the whole world to yourself.

If you're really adventurous, you can walk from the anchorage to Cow Wreck. It's just under 4 miles. Then take a taxi back.

We always go to Loblolly/The Big Bamboo in the morning to snorkel, and then have lunch.
Then we pack up and head to Cow Wreck for the afternoon.

Or, try Flash of Beauty (just east of Loblolly) for better snorkeling than Loblolly, then Anegada Beach Club (just east of Cow Wreck) for pool, drinks and great food. ABC also has a free shuttle from the anchorage.

We will be on Anegada for 5 nights starting next Wednesday and can't wait. we will go to Loblolly and Flash of Beauty for snorkeling, but more time will be spent at Cow Wreck. We really enjoy spending time at CWB.

Long walk. Better to have the taxi drop you off there, or drive there in your rental car. Last month we rented a scooter, which worked out great. I've seen people walk over from Loblolly on the beach though. We haven't visited Loblolly in years, it's become too crowded.

Both have great beaches. We went to Cow Wreck two weeks ago during our stop in Anegada.

We have just returned and also went to both. We prefer Cow wreck for food and drinks and Loblolly for snorkling. I have found the late afternoon is best for snorkling at Loblolly or Flash of beauty. More fish and less people. A new surprise for food was the Wonky Dog. Food and service was great and it was different from the other restaurants. Thanks for the ABC recommendation. Something new for next year. Only 50 more weeks for us.

Kim/Ward...you have covered ALL the important things with your pictures. Curious, where can you play around on a Hobie16? Be nice to play sometimes.

We got/came lazy on our last trip.

Robert on that trip,we kept seeing this group of hobies everywhere including .anegada. they sail around during daytime then they turn into tents on the beach at night. very cool way to travel. that trip to Anegada the winds were down to almost nothing for a few days. can't imagine getting to Anegda via Hobie otherwise. we actually took a dinghy around to Cow wreck from the anchorage. motor up and paddled over the reef in places but so calm and did it in the morning so sun high to see what was under us. not something we will likely ever get to do again.

Great pics. Thx.
Loblolly is best for snorkeling and, I think, food. But Cowreck is best for hanging out and Belle has a lot to do with that.
ABC may have the best rooms on the island but our one and only visit was not what we had hoped for. Slow service and they fried the chicken wings in the same fat as the fish. Just awful.

Too many people overlook Flash of Beauty. The snorkeling is good, the beach chairs are comfortable and the woman(Monica) who runs the restaurant is very personable and has a very good menu. All of these better than Loblolly. But you can't beat Cow Wreck for fun and conversation.

Flash of Beauty has some really great snorkeling through the coral caverns. One time, we walked from Big Bamboo to Flash of Beauty and decided we wanted to stay there and have lunch. We had left our stuff at Big Bamboo and Monica handed me her car keys to go get everything.

There is some coral close to shore but the best snorkelling is on the reef over which you see the waves breaking in this picture. Respect the sea state however. the day we did it it was very calm. I am not a strong swimmer and got frisked out by the sheer magnitude of the antler coral and deep caverns . Ie what is under me hiding ?
Mr Ward on they other hand snorkelled all through the reef and said it was amazing.

We were there when the swells were up, it was a bit dangerous. You could get drawn out to see with the returning water.

Hi Bridget, i felt like the loss of a swim fin would have made it very challenging to swim back to shore against the outflowing water. Think rip tide. It is beautiful there. But next trip I think we will go back to abc. The beach is georgeous there too.

Yup would never try to reach the reef with any swell up at all.
... we were so lucky that trip that it was extremely calm. same trip we took the dinghy around to cow wreck. ...something else we will most likely never get to do again.

Loblolly is summer time snorkeling for us. If we see any breaking swell at all we stay closer in.

If you are NOT a strong swimmer, but still want to enjoy snorkeling FOB, just walk to your right up the beach as far as you want to hike, head into the water until you can float, and the current will gently help you back to the restaurant / bar location. You won't get the " reef" experience, but it is still a slice of heaven for not much work, and pretty safe for kids as well.
