Have some friends who have recently purchased a time share. They have only been to SXM once and are bringing their children and grandkids this coming weekend 4/4. There will be 10 adults and children. Any suggestions on how they could travel on the island. They're not familiar with the roads, so renting and driving vehicles (Vans) may not work. Appreciate any thoughts.

Bus or taxi van are about your only other options. Taxi will not be cheap.

In my opinion it's very easy to drive around St Maarten so I would rent a vehicle or two.....part of the adventure ! Funny story.....1st time on SXM a number of years ago we asked the lady at the car rental counter (Thrifty I think) directions to Oyster Bay & she said " Just go up the road to the KFC, turn right, go over the hill & around to the right past the other KFC and around & you'll be there". We said " Are there any street signs, road names we can use to help us get there ?" She laughed & said "just follow the KFC's & you'll get there". We did & got there just fine. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

I might suggest that they contact TTOL sponsor Wilfred Brooks. He has a large van that would handle all of them. He could pick them up at the airport and get them settled in. Another day he could take everyone on an island tour, or pick them up for dinner. But they probably should also rent a vehicle or two, as paying for a taxi everywhere will be very expensive.

Although we were just a family of six, we utilized the services of Mr. Brooks last April. We weren't sure if we wanted to rent a car or not, so we hired him for the ride to and from the airport, and to and from a snorkel excursion. He is so warm and personable, you will like him. That being said, it does start to get a bit pricey. We crammed into a rental for one day and had a great time exploring the island. One last note, we were staying at the Villas at Simpson Bay so many restaurants were within walking distance for us.
