We are Canadians, just finished booking our accommodation and flights for next winter. We've flown Air transat, Sunwing, AC and West Jet, so far WJ is the repeat airline. After we booked I thought about all the threads here about flights cancelled, people checking all the time if their flights are still on the dates booked and so on.
It's something I never think about flying out of Toronto, we book, we get the dates.
What is the difference between Cdn and US flights?
Just curious

We have never had a flight change on a Canadian airline either so I am wondering what the problem is on the American airlines
as well. They seem to have major problems with schedules!

Same time.....same days.....same flight #......3 times in the last year had the same seat mate.....and a couple of crew....it has made it much easier with West Jet, my late husband & I were on the first return flight 10 passengers and price of $95.00....we should be very thankful we do not have to go thru what the USA tourists do.....me tinks I would be staying home.....kate

C'mon, Kate, tell the truth.....no you wouldn't. You'd accept it as the price we pay for the things in life we really, really enjoy just like all the rest of us!! When it's in your blood you do what you have to do....

And besides, if you were like some of us, you'd recognize it as a legitimate justification for whining every now and then, too!

I'm guessing, and it truly is just a guess, that it's because the Canadian airlines are more controlled and/or supported by government funds?

Air Canada did get some help years ago from the Feds, but the others no way.....truth is everyone thinks we are so sweet....always kind....always apologize....Gov't in our face.....actually we are just a well oiled machine.....

Pat aren't you part of us...that's why you are so sweet....lol

Pat have gone thru MIA & CLT a couple of times.....I feel for ya......but then there is AXA.....

Also in the complaint department.....why do we still have to take our shoes off in SXM.....kate

This is because they think American tourists have to do it in the USA so they expect to do it everywhere they travel. They don't realize that we don't do that in Canada and class us all as North Americans.Maybe some day they will figure it out and realize that most countries don't require that for security anymore. It was comical to see a man lose his pants when he removed his belt, and then have to walk through in his underwear and bare feet! He was just a tad embarrassed.(no pun intended)

Just to put something in perspective. Air Canada operates on average about 1400 flights per day (with 397 planes between AC, AC Express, Jazz, and Rouge). During summer, they say its closer to 1500 flights per day.

Delta on average operates over 4800 flights per day (with 794 planes). So, with just double the amount of planes, they have 3 times the amount of flights, so scheduling gets a little more complex. As they change the frequencies of certain flights, the schedule has to be moved around to accommodate the changes.

The problem never seems to be with Delta. American Airlines seems to be the one causing the most problems. Perhaps they could take a few lessons from Delta.

Then you have never flown Delta through Atlanta!!! I have never had flights cancelled or changed on American, and cancelled twice on JetBlue only due to weather. But I usually only book 60-90 days out max. Now Delta, nightmare city though ATL, several cancellations coming back from Melborne, FL, and daughter had issues PBI-ATL-LGA.

You are right, I have no need to fly Delta but most people here seem to like them. So, I guess all of the airlines in the US have the same problem which makes it discouraging for those having to travel.

We fly Delta 95% of the time domestically, mainly cuz of where we live & where we want to go. And there are some airlines I flat out refuse to fly and airports I try to avoid like the plague - Chicago comes to mind. And believe me, Delta LOVES to change its flight schedule, or assigned aircraft. I check our flights weekly to make sure our flights are still a go & we have the seats we chose or paid for. For our Feb trip to SXM they changed the times of the flight about 10 times - and 2 of those changes resulted in us having to book different flights. Having said that, once we are on the plane Delta gets us to where we want to go, reasonably on time, and with all our luggage.

Partly because of all the consolidation, the US airlines that are left have few qualms about $crewing the passenger if it gives them any benefit at all. They know we have little choice.

After reading this thread I decided to check our reservations. The confirmation code they had sent no longer existed. I went to website and the flight # from RDU to CLT had changed but the time was the same. DH called US Air and they had put us on a later flight out of RDU and we would have missed out connection to SXM by an hr. We would have had a 23 hr layover in CLT. Hopefully we will be OK now.

We did not receive any email or notice of change and if I had not read this thread I would not have checked our reservations. We would have missed a day in SXM and a lot of extra expenses. Thanks to this group for sharing their experiences. It certainly helped us out a lot.

We use the Trip Tracker app, excellent. We get notices before the airline sends them.
