We found that US is widely accepted (rarely see Jamaican $). Some will accept Canadian $ but be careful of the exchange rate they charge...it can be outrageous. I recommend taking a few hundred US $, and lots of small bills for tips and small purchases...Jamaicans rarely have change! Not really sure as the resort we go to (Hedo) has a lobster night. I suggest asking the staff at the resort as they are usually very helpful. There is a lobster season when it is not available but not sure when that is. My guess is that Lobster on the beach would be around $20 and a higher end restaurant upwards from there. Remember that they never have any change. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

For going off resort for a meal, I'd just use a credit card. You really should take at least one credit card with you, in case of emergencies anyway. And, as John said, bring SMALL change, for tips and any purchases off resort.
