I can't imagine that they will not be effected during the construction. They plan to remove the model of the Villas from the marina (YAY!!) and renovate that entire area.

GaKaye said: It certainly sounds like the area will be improved, but it's really hard for me to understand how they will put a beach in front of the Villa building. I guess it's similar to how they filled in the Marigot harbor area, but in this case with sand instead of concrete. I'll be interested to see what it looks like when we're there in November. I certainly don't expect it to be completed, but I'm guessing work will be under way.
I also wonder if this will allow walking on the beach all the way to Buccaneer. That would be nice. Probably it would be done as it was back in the late 70's for Great Bay Hotel. Most don't realize that's a "man-made" beach. You could not walk there from town then the beach made it great now there's a boardwalk. The beach at Divi when it was Little Bay Beach & Racket Club wasn't as you see it now. It was more of a beach closer to Belair. Sometimes when there's a storm erosion exposes rocks then they take dredged sands to replenish the beach.

Does anyone know if The Stone, Aquamania etc will be open during the renovations of the Marina building this summer/fall? According to Johann at the Stone, they WILL be open during construction. He did not say if they would be relocated. Might not be any "outside" dining.

Wow, there are not many tables inside! I almost think it wouldn't be worth his while to be open with that few tables. But he might not have a choice if they are making him to pay full rent during that time.

They have added sand and widened it but there was always a natural pretty beach there. you could always walk the entire section of beach.

B,
Perhaps she's thinking of the beach at Pelican? We watched them make attempt after attempt to get that beach to hold before it finally did. This would have been late 70s to mid 80s perhaps.
Respectfully,

A positive attitude will deliver a positive experience! The Stone is doing something right to have survived the restaurant business for many years in St. Maarten.

That area has needed a make over for years and years. With all the tourist traffic it gets, it does not showcase the island well. It will be very interesting to see what they do. We will be there in Feb. at the Villas. I love to watch construction. Hope it isn't too noisy. By February, all construction on the Marina building should be completed.
