Wednesday Leverick, You look GREEN!

Winds finally picked up and of course on the nose headed to Leverick. Went out the cut between Scrub and Camanoe, seas were pretty rough! One too many reds at Scrub for someone.. He was looking GREEN! All good, no chuming commenced. As we approached the Dogs the wind started to fade. Dirk and Sandy went for dive and some kite practice and were going to meet up with us at Leverick that evening. We arrived Leverick.

The guys on the dock had our slip waiting for us and as always make you feel right at home. With help from Nick, we arranged an open taxi to take the crew to the Baths via land this time. Was probably a good move since the Yellow flag was out at the Bath’s.

Hiked down to the water, thru some of the rocks and back up to Top of the Baths’. Followed by a stop at Hog Heaven for some Ribs and cocktails and beautiful views of Virgin Gorda Sound. Shawna’s new camera really takes great pictures!

Jumbies Bar at Happy Hour! Rum punch all around! Ali took good care of us as he always does. Back to the boat for some more wine, cheese and crackers and “Cards against Humanity”. Wow what a game! Not for the light hearted or young kids! I retired early and the rest of the crew including Dirk and Sandy had an awesome time on the docks at Leverick.

Thursday Anegada, Crazy Ivan!

Early rise and off the docks early to Anegada. We wanted to leave early due to the winds shifting and lying down as the day progressed. We said our good byes to Nick and Monica and departed the docks. The wind was 5 to 6 knots. looks like a motor to Anegada today Dirk
says. As you can see Jeff is happy, we are in FRONT of Catatonic.. Dont happen too often, even under power.. LOL!

Catatonic and Glad In It were on our way. About 30 minutes into the motor Jeff noticed the winds started to pick up and almost a beam to broad reach on a port tack (not the usual tack to Anegada that I remember). We were ahead of Catatonic by about 15 boat lengths. This Helia really cruises under power at 1900 RPM. So we head to wind and unfurl the main! Yes Glad In it has an in mast furler.

As we look over our shoulders Catatonic takes a quick turn to wind and does the same.

Needless to say, those of you who know Dirk and Sandy also know that they are a little competitive. Well maybe very competitive. And now the race is on! We aboard Glad In It know we dont have a chance against the fastest Lagoon in the Caribbean! (sorry Safari, one Cat Fight win is not enough smile so we kept in front while “charging our battery banks” or “keeping our refer cold” to coin a few excuses. The wind started to fade again… Wait whats that? Catatonic is now flying her Chute! (not competitive at all).

I think seeing a cat with a chute up is one of the best looking points of sail to see! She really looks beautiful! Ok time for operation quad copter while under sail. Well maybe not under sail. Jeff points us to wind and we douse the sails so they wont interfere while flying the copter under way, 3/4’s of the way to Anegada with little land in sight. Ok copter is up and Jeff maneuvers so Catatonic passes us on our port side so I can get some great aerial shots while she is under full sail!

Ok make my 1st pass, head back up and go for the 2nd and pass behind Catatonic for a full circle. Wait, something is wrong, no response on the copter?

Jeff, turn around…Jeff, turn around…What..Losing the copter! CRAZY IVAN time! So we turn around and head back towards the copter.

As you can see from the photo, we were pretty far away!!

Long story short I had a limit set on how far of a radius the copter would travel from its home point. Well it hit that imaginary wall and stopped dead. So we had to go back to that wall to get it on board. I know now that I need change that setting in the future.

Stay Tuned for Anegada, Neptunes and Cow Wreck. And the kite that flew away (with Dirk attached)
