Can anyone recommend a place to stay at in September that preferably is adults only? If I would have known this is low season and several places closed I would have never booked flights. We picked this time of the year to avoid kids. Thanks

As far as I know, there are NO places on Orient that are adults only. In fact, as far as I know, the only place on the entire island that is adults only, is Great Bay, which is an all inclusive in P'burg.

I personally don't know the resorts that well any more, used to know them by heart. Who DOES know them all, including which ones will closed in September--which traditionally is many of them--is TTOL sponsor Jim Ruos, at Caribbean Islands Travel Service. Just click on the TTOL sponsors list and scroll down. There are a lot of condos available for rent in the Orient Village area. That might be the answer. However, remember also that they will be re-doing all of the restaurants on Orient, from just after Pedro's, down through Aloha, starting in June, so there may be construction traffic and noise, depending on where you choose along Orient.

I'm thinking it may be a good time to think about staying somewhere other than Orient..

The Esmeralda used to be adults only. Don't know if it still is. Have not stayed there for a few years.

I don't know about the past, but the Esmeralda is not adults only now. This link shows their children policy.

The Esmeralda has their annual closure from August 31 to October 5, 2015. It has never been an adults only resort. ...Jim

Thanks for the info, Jim. I knew a lot of places are closed then.

I actually didn't think about Club Fantastico, for whatever reason. That might be a possibility, if they are not closed..

Club Fantastico. We will be there for the third year in a row this September. Cannot speak highly enough of the experience.

Adults only as far as I know. Chloe is a member here. She runs the place with Thierry.

Thanks for all of your comments. Since realizing my options are limited and half of the places are closed. I have never stayed on the Orient side. can someone give me recommendations on where else to stay? Thanks

I'm sorry, do you mean you've never stayed anywhere OTHER than on Orient?

No, sorry I have never stayed there at all. We visited one day and have no idea where to stay since half of the places are closed. Thanks

I think that you will find closings to be pretty uniform throughout the island during the off-season. There are plenty of places to stay all around the island during September. We stay on Orient because that is where we spend the most time, but we go other places too.

OK, I'm still confused as to whether you want to stay on Orient or somewhere else. With regard to Orient, as I said, please contact Jim Ruos at Caribbean Islands Travel Service. Go to the TTOL sponsors list and scroll down. He will know which resorts are open and what to recommend.

As far as elsewhere on the island, if you are open to staying on the Dutch side, basically all of the timeshare resorts in Simpson Bay will be open, and there will be a ton of restaurants/entertainment/etc that you can walk to from many of them. LaVista or LaVista Beach are great, as well as Royal Palm or Flamingo or Simpson Bay Resorts. If you're willing to look in Simpson Bay, pretty much everything should be open.

From what I am reading, it seems that the OP has never stayed on the island, but has visited by cruise ship. Adults only is kind of a foreign concept on SXM. Jamaica and Cancun have many adult only resorts. This is just not the case in St. Maarten (either side). Going in September is definitely a slower time, no need to worry about Adults only.

Over the last 15 years, we have stayed all over the island and come and at different times. The last 5 years, we have been coming in September and stay at Mary's Boon (marysboon.com). They usually have a summer special that extends into Sept. The beach there is great, very quiet, have never seen anyone with kids. You can walk right out to beach. Yes some places are closed, but we always find enough open to still have a great time.
