So I asked a guy who works at Scrub "why no TTOL discount"?

the occupancy while we were there was 30 people in 10~ish rooms.

Apparently they have been getting complaints from the people that spend ~700-3000 per night that they had the facilities run over by "us boat people" that only spend ~100+ bucks a night to use the facilities. and that there were no places to sit by the pool.

In addition, my son proved that you can jump from the top level pool, to the lower pool, and not sustain injuries smile

I'm siting at Scrub right now in sliip B31. Got my TTOL discount. Spent a couple hours in the pool and had one of the best meals I've had in a while. I didn't try to jump from the upper pool to the lower. That would be a bad idea any day, today there is no water in the lower pool.

My child was admonished for that feat, even though there was water. there was no TTOL discount when we were there...FMP might have been the reason.

that said, the resort is still "trying to figure it out". we as boaters don't spend ~100/day...maybe per person...or more.

We have always felt welcome at scrub and have had a great time. While we only pay a dock fee for admission our total bill on check out is a different story but the crew always has a memorable time. We pay our fair share, they should like it when we come.

Funny thing....we sailed right past...I offered up the idea of staying there to the rest of our crew....they opted for a ball at Marina Cay...and I was very happy. Stayed there once and it was lovely...but it's not my idea of a BVI kind of place....

It is less about the workers. They have always been wonderful. It is about the upper mangement. They are struggling to upscale to remain in business.

I can see why people staying there would be annoyed - high priced rooms, PLUS a resort fee, so they are not only paying a much higher fee for their night, they are also paying a fee for the stuff we use with just our slip fee..

We stayed in a slip there on this last trip because one of our couples was getting off there and staying until they left to go back home and paid the fee....not a place I would get a slip otherwise. We are spoiled, admittedly, by The wonderful deckhands at Leverick - but Peter are very fussy about where to put you and are not all that fabulous when it comes to responding to 16....and have no one on hand to grab lines...save the Harbour master who was about as helpful as a heatwave in a chocolate factory. Had it not been for our friends who wanted to be in a slip? We have anchored in Deadman's and still enjoyed the facilities. And....the marina showers at Peter? (Which they assured our friends were completely renovated) - same old....barely a drizzle...shameful for what they charge....

We have stayed at scrub overnight on bareboat charter, was last year. We enjoyed it. It was a surprise to us that the marina was maybe 10 or 15% full when we were there during the Christmas/new year holiday period... high season. And, after reading some of the comments here, it does make me wonder why they constructed such nice marina facilities with a lot of slip space if the really don't want boats there in the first place. Seems a little weird with respect to running a "resort destination". But we do like it as a stop and plan to return if they will continue to accept bareboat charters for overnights.... I agree, they don't go out of their way to cater to "us bare boaters". We also big fans of Leverick Bay, always a great stop and love the restaurant upstairs and the Beans show is always fun too.

Scrub, Peter Island and the like are not my cup of tea. I go to BVI for quiet deserted beaches and anchorages and swimming in the beautiful water. Not interested in high priced resort amenities or attitude.

My 2 cents. We stayed at Scrub before, in the marina. It was decent, but we'll probably never go back. Great facilities, good food, but to be honest I'd rather eat at Myett's and dinghy out to our buoy.

We went to Peter last year on December 31st to see what New Years was like. The dock master was friendly, the facility nice, but the surge in the marina was terrible. It was bad enough to make you stay away. Digicel works poorly at their dock. Dinner at $285pp + 18% gratuity was too expensive and we ate on the boat.

We went back to Peter island in May. We wanted to try their famous Saturday night buffet. There was no dock master on duty. He did not show up to work. Lots of wasted time calling on the vhf. We finally chose our own slip. No power at the dock as it was off for maintenance. The marina is under construction and the showers are pathetic. The buffet was fabulous. I will only go back if I have guests that wish to.

We have dinghied over to the ghost town called scrub Island on a few occasions. We have never had any desire to stay there. We once went to the reception to inquire about marina charges and to see if there were any ttol discounts and just got a blank stare. It was too much trouble for them to provide any help.

Generally I prefer not to take a dock. Leverick is an obvious exception. None other come to mind,

My favorite resort in the Bvi is the one we all float on. It has great views, swimming, sun/shade, water toys, access to lots restaurants and bars etc. what more could you ask for?

Warren, you have it so right. For us it is much the same. Our favorite resort in the BVI is our house on Jost, it has a dock, great views, swimming, sun/shade, water toys, and access to so many great bars and places to eat.

Agree completely, Warren....we only went this year because of our guests....would anchor at Deadman's again in a minute.....but never again in a slip.....

FMP IS the reason! We were there for a FMP and we were told when there is a FMP there is no discount. As Bridget mentioned....I like Scrub...great restrooms/showers, pool, food...etc.....but once is enough for me...it doesn't have the personal feeling of the islands that I come for and I do get that from Leverick, Myetts, Sydneys, Harris'...and I could go on and on. If you haven't tried it - I would suggest it to see if it is to your liking.....and mainly on the night of the FMP

I asked about TTOL discount when booking online, but didn't get a response. I should have pressed the issue.

We do Leverick and Scrub twice, we always spend 18 to 21 days in the Islands and are in need of real showers, floating around in a pool is a little refreshing at times.

I inquire about the TTOL discount and have never had a problem. In fact the last visit they were completely full.

If we only went for 1 week to 10 days we would probably only hit Leverick because of the friendliest staff in BVI.

"complaints from the people that spend ~700-3000 per night"

I'm surprised that Marriott points people spend that much - and they seem to be the bulk of guests!

The pool area does seem undersized, relative to the number of rooms and slips, in the same way that the inside restaurant is way oversized, relative to the number of diners there. Guess they misjudged the clientele when they designed the place.

As to the FMP, all establishments offer discounts to fill downtime, so if they're full anyway for a FMP, it seems fair to block out those dates.

Only reason I'd stay at scrub again is if there was a discount and we were on a boat with shore power A/C only and wanted to cool off.

It's nice, but not what we go to the BVI for.

We pulled into Scrub on our last night on one of our trips and spent the night in a beautiful suite. The staff was very attentive and the rooms fabulous. The hot shower was a treat at the end of a lovely weeks sail.

We ordered room service and ate on the balcony enjoying the sunset. The next morning they had their ferry boat ready to take us to the airport. Handled all the luggage for us which was nice. We thought it was a great end to a wonderful trip. And I would stay there again on my last night.

Okay - gotta ask - how did the sailboat get back to base? Am I missing something?

We just got back from staying at Peter Island for 10 days, and were surprised to see so many boats on the dock and in Sprat Bay for several days while there. In previous trips, there were rarely more than a couple boats in that area as most seemed to anchor in Deadmans Bay.

We enjoy seeing the boats come and go while at Scrub and at Peter Island. As land based folks who like boating, it doesn't bother us at all unless there is a ruckus of some sort. Land based visitors can cause a ruckus too smile In our 1 visit to Scrub and many visits to Peter, we haven't had the situation where boaters "take over" the beach or the pool area, but I have heard of it happening when lots of boats come over from Puerto Rico.

Several nights there were 100+ ft Motor Yachts on the dock. They ran their generators all day and night, so it was a slight annoyance as we could hear it from our room, but I was able to tune it out for sleeping. They are still doing construction at the marina, so perhaps dock power was shut off. One night, there was a party with live music on a big Motor Yacht, so we enjoyed the music.

Regarding the price of the Peter Island Sat evening buffet, (or any dinner for that matter) its definitely not $285pp + 18% gratuity. The food is very expensive, but not that high! It was $89pp plus 18% gratuity. Drinks are on top of that, so if you had bottles of expensive wine or champagne, it would still take a bit to rack up $289/pp. (Perhaps a typo?)

I was wondering as well - must be a crewed charter.

They also did say something about it being New Years...perhaps that's where the price came from.

I was wondering as well - must be a crewed charter.

Didn't think about that!

So as I stated earlier. We spent the night there last night on our private boat. Four days into a six day trip. We have a/c on the boat but I haven't finished installing the generator yet. The crew loved shore power for the night. I called them a mile north of Beef Island about a half hour out, on the number in their add here. No problem with the TTOL discount. We where treated very well. All the staff was friendly.

We did drinks in the pool, showered then dinner outside upstairs. Again great service, very good seafood chowder and one of the best lobsters I've ever had down here. For the record I've eaten lobster almost every where here.

This morning we went to their north shore beach hung out and had a few drinks. Great service, free ride over there, towel service etc. We went back to check out, again great service. I asked members of management about boats and they said they are very happy to have them.

While marinas may not be for everyone I can say we had a very good experience here and will do it again.

Last time we stopped at Scrub Island the ladies went to the spa, and the gentlemen, I use that term uncarefully, spent the afternoon playing with the grandkids at the pool, drinking and having appetizers pool-side.

We also got the discount. (summer 2013)

A great time was had by all!

We had planned to stay at Peter on our last night, and are wondering if we should anchor in Deadmans Bay overnight (we did this last time) or we should plan to overnight in great harbour?

I am not sure how the hotel guests of Scrub island know how much we are paying for a slip so I am not sure why they would care. I don't go out of my way to tell them. The marina looks nicer with some sailing yachts parked in there. I think they like us, at least they act like the do.

We have made marina slip stops at Scrub and Leverick on nearly every visit. We really enjoy both of them, different , yes.

We like to visit with the dock hands at Scrub (Kurt and Savio) similar to the dock hands at Leverick (Tito and Leroy) all of them are helpful, friendly and kind.

We often meet landlubbers at Scrub at the pool/hot tub. Most have the following in common: intrigued and full of questions about sailing, friendly, not paying for their room with $ (they are there on Marriott Points).

We try to keep the boat tidy by not having a bunch of clothes hanging out to dry on the lifelines.

We enjoy hanging out at the hot tub, swim up bar, kayaking or dinghy to Diamond Reef, ferry to Trellis Bay, North Beach, hot long showers.

Cheers,

Tony

I TOTALLY ECHO what Mardi Gras says.

That said....the current plan is to reduce the number of Marriott Platinum's. and to "try" to execute on a "higher level". We have seen this fail before, but the higher ups...not the staff...had made it clear to me. They want the 1k$+ people. not like us owners are not.....

and yes, I am one of those people who spend too much time in Marriott hotels. but have never turned points there.

But the people that "maybe they think their entitled to a private pool" because they are 2 of 20 in the hotel....meh

To each their own they say, but your subject line seems to imply that Scrub does not want TTOL members to visit? Why would a marina not want "us boat people" on their docks?

Why would Scrub pay money to advertise on TTOL and place a classified ad offering a discount to TTOL members if they didn't want us to visit? Who was "a guy"?

Did your child jumping from the upper pool attract the attention of management? should have!

As far as the discount, the classified ad placed in May clearly states a special rate until October 31, 2015. Was the guy a manager? Did you tell them about the ad? the ad says "mention this ad" If you were not given the advertised rate I would contact a manager and ask them to read their classified ad, you probably deserve a partial refund. If they don't want to offer a special rate during holidays or full moon they should change their ad to reflect this.

We've stayed on the Scrub docks a few times and Kurt and other staff have always treated us great. I have never received attitude from anyone there, guests or staff. The bartenders have been fun, the free shuttle to the North Beach is great, the food and service was some of the best we've had in the BVI.

I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion and can post what ever they want, but I find it odd that when "some guy" is quoted as saying "us boat people" aren't welcome at Scrub that it is allowed to remain as a post, especially since Scrub is a TTOL sponsor and they have that classified ad here! IF Scrub management is knowingly not honoring that ad then that's a problem! I'm curious to know if the specific TTOL ad was brought to the attention of whoever processed the reservation? If they still didn't honor the ad then that's a problem!!

Peter island buffet $285 U.S. pp + 18% gratuity/tax at New Years. Includes music and fireworks. No typo here. Cheaper than foxy's and better food

Ahhhh, I should have mentioned we have a hired captain and the afternoon we pulled into Scrub after we had left the boat he took it on over to Road Town. :-)

All different degrees of good. Not much is "like the old idea of the BVIs" but that is progress for you....I hated the idea when they built a resort on Saba Rock - but I go there regularly and have a great time. I hated when they redid all the shacks into fancy places like the Pirates and Cooper but then went there and had a great time and lamented the construction for years as I watched Scrub get built and then went there and had a great time. Yup it is def different than throwing your hook in Great Harbor and dingy to Foxys but as stated hanging over the edge of that pool w a drink in ur hand looking out at the SFDC is spectacular and beats sitting in my office in the winter. Plus they have a dive center there so my when I am with my son it is convenient. We dont go there every time but it is great when we do and everyone is super friendly.
