We enjoyed a wonderful week at this “private” resort along with 15 of our newest (as in, just met) friends . Yes, although the resort is large and has some 60 villas as well as two “hotel/motel” style buildings, occupancy was low during the week that we were there, however we considered this a plus. The resort was fully staffed with enthusiastic staff and service was excellent. The staff all spoke reasonably good English and every morning the activity directors conducted 30 minute Spanish lessons for the guests. Great idea and the staff appreciated our efforts to speak our newly acquired language. The wait staff at both the beach bar and in the restaurant made sure that everyone was well served with food and drinks.

This resort has been written about on TTOL several times under both the Eden Bay and Caliente Caribe names and also has a good web site http://www.edenbay.com/ which describes the place quite well so my report will not be as long as some of my other reports have tended to be.

Couple of good/mediocre/bad points to mention:
Good – Continual on-going maintenance program quietly in evidence everywhere. Every morning workers swept the pathways and lawns. Shrubs were hand trimmed as needed. One morning the beach front hot tub was a cold tub. This was mentioned to the staff and within an hour it was a hot tub again.

Mediocre – the food was what my wife calls “functional” in that it was eatable and was generally OK, however it was not anything special. The menu for every meal featured several selections. Lunch and Dinner menus had beef, chicken, pork, pasta and fish entries. Breakfast had eggs, omelettes, pancakes, French toast, oatmeal and cold cereal entries. I am a pesco-vegetarian (the only animals consumed are fish or other seafood) and had no real trouble with the meals, however I ate a lot of the fish dish during the week. My non-veggie wife had a better selection of dishes to choose from. II noticed that the food portions were properly sized, i.e. not tiny and not supersized.

Bad - Decorative polished ceramic floor tiles in the reception / restaurant building and at the beach bar looked great however they are dangerous when walked on with wet feet. It rained on our first day at the resort so we were dripping wet as we entered the beach bar and found our feet quickly slipping out from under us causing us to almost land on our head. And we had not even had our first drink!

Travel comments – We flew Delta (DL-257 ) non-stop ATL to POP in just under 3 hours, very nice. Even better, my wife had won the air tickets earlier this year while attending an industry conference. Our only cost was $96.00 tax and junk fees on the air tickets and the discounted cost of the resort (see the web site)

We enjoyed our stay but it seems that the week passed faster at the resort then it would have if we had stayed home and went to work every day. I think that we will have to do some more “on site” research into this phenomenon. We are already planning for our next trip.
