We returned last night after spending 22 hours in the airports and on the planes. Here are some of our highlights and lowlights: US Air: On time and first class is the only way to fly (our flight to SXM) American Airlines: No leg room and small seats but they were on time to get us home even if it did take them 22 hours (trip back to San Diego) L Hoste: Not much to speak of luxury but the staff were friendly. Travelocity said we would have an ocean view room. There is no such thing as an ocean view room. Because we were booked by travelocity the management of L Hoste put us in the old section. I paid for their best room and got a Motel 2 room, not even Motel 6 quality. Orient Beach @ La Playa: Great beach and beach bar. Plenty of Coors Lights and plenty of sun and fun. Bikini Beach Bar: Good food and good service. Try their ribs. Lescapade in Grand Case: Excellent food and service. We ate there twice and were impressed both times. This is world class and we would recommend to anyone. Rare @ Atlantas Casino: Dino Jagtiano is the top chef on the island. I had a ribeye that was world class and my wife had the ribs that fell off the fork but had such a great flavor. The service was excellent and Dino and his mom always treat everyone as if they were family. This is in my opinion the best restaurant on St Martin and Temptation is second best. This man would make millions if he opened a restaurant on the strip of Vegas. Safari: Good pizza and a good price. We were not that hungry but agreed the pizza was some of the best we have had. Corte Playa: Good food but the waiter lost our credit card and from that point on it was like a bad nightmare. They would not even give us a break on the bill. Never would give them another try. Not the way to conduct business. Baywatch: Andy is great and lots of laughs to be had. We ate breakfast with naked people and found out that even naked people are nice. My wife keeps her top on and I give the world a break and keep my bottoms on. Fun place and we would go back to eat and talk with the morning naked people. DK Gems: Go visit Vicky. He gave me a great deal on a watch that would have cost me 30% + tax more in the USA. Shivas: My wife bought some gold jewlery and was very happy with the price and quality. Tap 5: Very nice selection and quality of products. We visited the store on a daily basis. Unity: These guys are real pros. They wisk you from the airport and into your rental car before you have a chance to worry about all of the crazy traffic. Highly recommended! The Spa @ Maho: World class and Peter does wonderful things with his hands. A true professional that gave my wife the massage of her life. The young lady that attended to me was excellent but could not remember her name. I recall Peter because he lived in San Diego for 10 years.
All in all we had a great trip. The weather was outstanding and with the exception of an outdated hotel and the credit card experience we had a great time. We will however stay on the Dutch side from now on. We love the beach at Orient but do not do the nude thing and feel like the night life is better near Maho/Cupacoy area.
Hope this helps anyone traveling to paradise in the near future.
