Well, even though Desert Sun has been open for a couple of months now, this past weekend was the official grand opening.

On Friday evening there was a very nice event with some local Palm Springs officials present, along with some representitives from AANR, and some others. A catering company provided hours dourves.

Stephen and Linda Payne were also on hand and were presented with a nice plaque from John and Elizabeth.

It was a very nice event, and there was a very nice turnout.

On Saturday, there were all sorts of games and contests for the guests (along with the usual water volleyball), and a raffle for some nice prizes (including Spa services and a two-day weekend stay).

On Saturday night, some of the homeowners and guests had a party across the bridge, in celebration of Captain Jack's official retirement (with everyone joking that they thought Jack retired years ago). This was for Jack's work retirement, and not his Desert Sun retirement.

Sunday was more volleyball and sun.

There was a very good turnout this weekend, especially given that July is traditionally a slower month there. It was nice to see so many people.

There were a few quests who said they had been coming for years but hadn't been for a year or two. There were a few new people, a few regulars, a few homeowners, and the usual assortment of locals.

Also, there were some nice little cosmetic changes done since last weekend. In the front office, behind the desk, a nice Desert Sun sign and water feature was installed. In the resturaunt, a Desert Sun mirror was put up behind the bar area. Both look very nice.

With Desert Sun starting to get some press, and the official grand opening now under way, it looks like things will be on their way to being "back to normal" very soon!

We've been home for two hours now and are already counting down our time until we'll be back. Unfortunately, it won't be for a couple of weeks!
