Just a quick thank you to all who posted giving us ideas for our Christmas trip. Unfortunately, we were stuck in the Seattle airport during the snowstorm mess forcing us to rebook our Delta flight to Hawaii. Due to the crowded flights, we ended up spending time in Los Angeles until we could get to Hawaii (xmas eve). Our 2 island 8 night trip turned into a one island (Big Island), 4 night trip. We lost our the money we paid for the Oahu hotel (advance purchase, non-refundable); got the privilege of paying Delta about $1900 to rebook our flights (I'm fighting this fee); and had to pay for 2 rooms/3 nights in Los Angeles while we waited for the Delta flight. It turned into a very expensive trip (needless to say). But, we loved Hawaii! Once we felt some warmth and sunshine, the stress melted away and we had a nice enjoyable time.

We stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club in Waikoloa. It was a 2 bdrm/2 bath condo - fantastic! They had a beautiful (heated) pool, and nice spa area. It was a ten minute walk from the condo to the Hilton Resort. (they also had a shuttle to take you around the area, but we loved walking) We would go back to that area in a heartbeat - loved it!

We did cook in for breakfast and a couple dinners; the rest of the time we ate out. Favorites: Roy's (wonderful dinner); Donatoni's (Italian restaurant at the Hilton - delicious); Cafe Pesto (for lunch; Hilo).

Our favorite activity was the helicopter tour over the volcano. It was amazing! We did the shorter one this time, but want to try the longer tour of the island.

So, we want to try this trip again! Our little 4 night visit was certainly not enough. So much more to see and do...
