The following is a copy of the TripAdvisor post that I have on KU Hotel.

Hope everyone enjoys..

We spent a very enjoyable week at KU Hotel from May 8th thru May 16th. This will be an overview of our opinions. We arrived into Anguilla via the ferry from Marigot in St. Martin. This was very painless, but I would only recommend this of travelers that do not mind a little adventure. The cab drivers and ferry operators really do all of the heavy lifting of your luggage. Once we arrived at the ferry landing, we had a rental car waiting for us in the parking lot from Summer Set Car Rental. The owners name is Moran Rey and he was fantastic. We went to see him the following day before doing the grocery shopping and he is just a wonderful man. I would recommend him for any of your rental car needs. I know we will be using him again. He gave us great directions that he left in the car from the ferry landing to KU. We also recommend that you do rent a car. It is very easy to drive in Anguilla and the drivers are all very friendly and patient. In fact, most folks walking on the street will wave to you which we ended up doing everything we saw someone walking on the street.

KU Hotel, as everyone has stated, sits on a gorgeous beach. The hotel is very clean and the grounds themselves are tended very well. The actual room we were in was 125, which was on the third floor of an oceanview/pool view room. The views from this room are actually very very good. I would recommend requesting an upper floor for the view, but you need to walk stairs which can be rather tight with luggage. They also do get wet when it rains, so they can be slick. I had messed up our reservation and actually needed an extra night. We got lucky and they actually had only one room available for that night. So, we had to move to another room, but it was a beachfront unit. It was on the 2ND floor, room 103. This room was a little larger than the other room and the bathroom was more updated and also a little larger. But, the kitchen was actually more worn than the 125 room. Some of the kitchen cabinets would not close since they were warped, but that is expected in that type of climate. In both rooms, the kitchens have all of the necessary items to actually make a dinner, if you wish. We were surprised. Both rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff is great. Yes, the rooms are sparse and may be a little worn, but they are very clean and that is all that we ask for. The beds in both rooms were hard, so if you like soft beds, this could be an issue for you. We had no issues with the beds. The A/C units work great and kept the rooms very comfortable, even though we had them off in the morning for the cool trade winds coming through the room.

We decided on KU because of the beach and the restaurants that are located in the area. We did short trips to Rendezvous Beach by Cuisinart and Bankie Banks Dune Preserve which has a great view of St. Martin, Meads Beach where Carimar Beach club is located as well as a number of other resorts/hotels. Nice beach that would be great on any other island, but still Shoal Bay East is nicer. KU also looked nicer than Carimar from the beach. We than were at the beach that Cap Juluca is on and that is a wonderful beach (I forgot the beaches name). The beach was very peaceful since it sits inside of a bay. But, where you park your car to enter into the Cap Juluca beach, there is another beach that is very untamed. Very high waves crashing into the rocks, but as you walk a short distance, another lovely small beach. Deserted, no one on it. It was all yours. We also stopped at the beach that the Mango Restaurant is on and it is also lovely and was also deserted. This is on the same side of the island as Sandy Ground. We also went to Shoal Bay West which is where Cove Castles resort is located. This was a lovely beach also, but the waves were larger and there was a bigger drop off than at Shoal Bay East. This beach was also deserted and if you walk to the end of the beach, you get great views of St. Martin in the distance with the surf crashing on the rocks. Again, very deserted. You really did have some of these beaches to yourself to do whatever you wanted to do on them. No one would know except you and your honey.

We also went to Sandy Ground and a few other beaches on the island which were great beaches in their own right, but none of them, and we mean, none of them, compare to Shoal Bay East and Upper Shoal Bay. These two are sheer heaven. From Ku, you can go east (as you are standing looking out at the ocean, you go right) which will take you to the point which is fantastic since you can see St. Martin from there and is also where Shoal Bay East meets Upper Shoal Bay. From here you walk down to Gwen's Reggae Grill and Serenity Hotel. Now you return back to KU and you can continue on down the beach until it dead ends. You have a fantastic walk in and some just unbelievable views. The other thing that is great about Shoal Bay East and Upper Shoal is the snorkeling off of the beach. The reef is located very close to shore and everyone was stating that the snorkeling was great. We did no snorkeling since I had hurt my shoulder before leaving for vacation and it was still hurting real bad. Really could not do much swimming because of the motion, so the next time we come down, we will be sure to do some snorkeling.

We did the rum tasting a Pyrat Rum which is located on the way to Sandy Ground. Very good rum and we recommend at least stopping buy and trying the rum.

With a hotel staff that is very friendly and rooms that are very clean and safe, we will be staying at KU again in the near future. The one thing that I think everyone needs to also keep in mind is as we investigated the other beaches, the only beach that had numerous eating establishments close by was Shoal Bay East. Our first night we ate at Zara's which is located in back of Gwen's Reggae Grill, so you can either walk to it or it is a very short drive from the hotel. You also have Medeariman's Reef which is next to KU which is great. Their pizza was very good and we would recommend it. We ate their twice since it was so good the first time. Uncle Ernies is also next to KU, but we did not each there. Down the beach toward the dead end, is a beachside grill named Sunset Grill restaurant. We ended up talking to a couple that moved to Anguilla from the states and they said that the 2 ladies you own Sunset Grill are great and that the food is also very good. It’s a shame we did not know about that until our last day, so we did not make it to them. You also have Elodia's Grill down the beach toward Gwen's Reggae Grill which was okay. And than of course, you have Gwen's Reggae Grill which we went twice. We went on Sunday afternoon since they had a local scratch band playing that was just great. To see guys playing instruments made out of a washboard and other homemade items was really great. As everyone has stated before, Gwen's is a must. You really do have to visit her. So, as you can see, you have a number of restaurants that are within walking distance of KU. KU does have a restaurant on it premises, it is named Kuyah and is not owned by KU. We had breakfast there on our first day and it was good, but at $31.00, that was a little pricy for us. Especially since you have a coffee machine in the room and a frig where you can have your own OJ that you bought so much cheaper than at Kuyah. All you need is a frying pan, some butter and some eggs and there you are, you just saved yourself $31 for breakfast that you can spend on dinner or lunch. Especially with the below pastry shop so close also.

There is a pastry shop that is located on the way to Scilly Cay. If you take the road that takes you past Gwen's Reggae Grill and Zara's until it dead ends into the main road. From there, you make a left and head toward Scilly Cay. About ½ mile down the road, on the right hand side, you will see a sign for Le Bon Pain. It is usually closed on Wednesday's (it was going to close on Tuesday's starting at the end of May). They have wonderful pastries and baguettes at a reasonable price. I stopped in here every morning except for on Wednesday. It actually is only about 5 minutes from KU and the views returning back of Upper Shoal Bay are great.

We also ate at Tasty's which was good and at Luna Rose. We actually ate at Luna Rose twice. It is owned by a gentleman that was originally from Naples Italy, but was living on the east coast for a number of years. He was getting ready to move back to Naples and on the way he stopped in Anguilla for a vacation. And he fell in love with Anguilla and ended up opening up Luna Rose. Very good food at a decent price (In Anguilla terms).

Hope this helps folks out in determining where to stay.

One other note, there is no internet itself at KU, but located across from the hotel entrance is a small grocery store that has free internet access for KU guests. Since we have phones that do have wireless capabilities, it would have been nice to have that available either at the Hotel lobby or in the restaurant. Not a big deal for us, but again, for some folks, they may need their internet fix.

If you are looking at a 4 or 5 star hotel, elevators to your rooms, plush furnishings and being wined and dined, than KU will not be to your liking. But, if you want a wonderful hotel that is very clean, helpful and very friendly staff, clean grounds and one of the best beaches we have seen, great beach grills and bars close by, than KU is the place to be. And for the prices that you have in Anguilla, KU is worth it.
