We didn't sleep well last night but sort of made up for it this morning. Arose about 6ish but still no perfect sunrise or daybreak to speak of. Overcast and cloudy skies but the rain from last night is long done.

Basically this was our no-no day - no plans, no agendas, no places to be or people to see. We attended the orientation which we usually don't do but it's always nice to catch up on the newest boat trips if you're of a mind to do one......? And we were so we listened to all the different spiels and booked the day sail we wanted and also took the BOGO so kindly offered from Dr. Doug a few weeks ago and booked the trip back from St. Bart's for the family on Saturday. After which, we did some business errands and picked up a few supplies we'd forgotten to order through Jeanie. Boy, I love the GrandMarche at Porto Cupecoy!! And you can still charge there on most credit cards.

The rest of the day we lazed around and did not much of anything. No beaching - no pool. We checked out the Maho Beach cam and since there was no one there to speak of, DH and Granddaughter, having seemingly recovered from her migraine of the morning, ran over hoping to see the Air France come in. They missed it by about a minute and then waited around a bit but got tired of watching. At least I was able to see them waving to me on the camera which I thought was kind of cool. They gave up on planes after a bit and went to the Dunes and played penny slots for a small deposit each, and in doing so missed the big AA coming in from Miami. Back to the room and it's nappy time. We had to rest up for our big night out.

Twenty years ago I promised myself I'd NEVER subject myself to another evening at Cheri's and until this evening I hadn't. Oh, the things we do for our Grandkids.

Dinner consisted of three soups - one of which was lobster bisque and the other two French onion gratinee and surprisingly, all three were very good. DH had a rib and shrimp BBQ plate and we ladies had incredibly huge burger plates. The burgers were not bad but too big for my taste. The only negative to the dinner was we were expecting traditional BBCs when we placed our order and while they were okay, they were only okay - no chocolate drizzle and not as tasty as so many other places. Dinner came to $100.00 with no gratuity and they do charge and show the TOT on the bill, but no s/c so we gave that to our waiter in cash.

And then the show began - it is what it is. The musicians were pretty good but it really hasn't evolved much over the years and the clappers still drive me nuts......some might say not a big trip, that. But we stayed and enjoyed most of it before saying enough.

And here we are, tucked away in our aerie at the Towers, with the breezes drifting through the unit and ready to call it a night. All in all, for a no-no day, it was pretty much all good in the end.

We've heard all the cautions regarding mosquitos and acted accordingly but in all honesty, and admitting we haven't really ventured that far afield yet, we have not seen any anywhere we've yet been, and there have been a lot of nighttime rain showers of late.

And for anyone interested, the golf course is almost green again and well mowed but even with the rain showers, still possibly in the worse over-all condition I've seen it in for years. But still they play. Boy!! Do they ever........

Wow, a night at Cherie's!! Kind of makes me glad that we don't have any kids or grands, to even think about doing that!!! Otherwise, a do-nothing day, sounds like my kind of day!!!

Enough reason for us not to go again. They need to be reported.

Chill, Scuba....too many places are doing the same thing and showing the TOT. If the government turns a blind eye, it's really not worth getting your britches in a bunch as a visitor. That would be the last thing that would keep me away if I were contemplating going in the first place. It's a nice evening of easy food and entertainment if you're looking for a few giggles.

Carol,

Our do nothing days usually entail a day of nothing but the pool, or the beach and surprisingly enough, we had a lot of little things we needed to do along with a few errands for friends and family so it was all good in the end.

Cheri's is Cheri's, what can I say! The food is decent, the service efficient and pleasant and it's an all in one evening, plus close to us for one stop eats and entertainment. I doubt we'll return anytime soon, but a first-timer would go and enjoy. We laughed and my Granddaughter did enjoy the evening and that's really what it was all about and why we were there in the first place.

Another good day. Cherie's is really not all that bad; you just have to be in the mood and go with the flow! The important thing it was an evening for your granddaughter to enjoy, and that in itself would make it all worth while.

I agree with most of the above posters......i also (as many here know) have not been a fan of Cheri's also for about 20 years or so ago. Have not done it for at least 15 years...and hopefully will continue to keep missing it...but...someday if my grandkid(s) join us...maybe then????

My favorite night of the week is Tuesday's.....the night that they are closed!!!! Coincidentally, it is also the BEST NIGHT to go to one of our all time faves....Le Moulen Fou, and enjoy the outdoor seating...all without the noise pollution coming from the coconut guys...the pepper guys...the old guy sitting in his chair....etc. Twenty years later...the show remains the same??? wink

Thanks for the update. Sounds like another good day. Get those naps in before you know who gets there!

Pat, FYI there is another store we went to for groceries called Carefour. It is wonderful and I only saw a small part of it.

I know I would do Cheri's for my grandchildren---just hope we get the opportunity!!

Just saying, but Mullet was spectacular yesterday. No ships again!! They are back this morning after 4 days!!!

Don't know if we can stay away.....we have been at Mullet 3 out of 7 days, so not so bad.

Have a great day!!

I only know of one other that adds the TOT on the bill and that is Jimbo's. Who else are the others you refer to?

I remember the year Cheri's opened (around 25 years ago). Our teenaged son was in heaven- he could get a burger and other "American" food. We usually make it our first night stop for dinner- their coconut shrimp are pretty good. But as everyone says "it is what it is". So happy your and your grand daughter are having a wonderful time together- great memories are being made!!

Cheri's will disappear one day and almost be forgotten like Rick's or Scavengers. Then someone will post an old photograph of it and say they remember how much fun they had there and wish that it was still around. Then there will be a chorus of people echoing those sentiments. Ah, the mind does funny things.
