Can anyone share with me their experiences with Horizon Yacht Charters? They are affiliated with Swain Sailing School, who did our ASA 103 & 104 last week. We are thinking about chartering one of their newer boats (2015 or 2016) in the fall since we liked Nanny Cay, liked the boat, and we get a discount.
I just read about the other poster with the big list of problems. I have crewed on a Moorings boat and we had small issues but nothing major. I am wondering if their experience was an exception to the rule.

My husband and I have bareboated in the BVI's every December since 1999, and we've chartered from Mooring, TMI and Horizon. Horizon is our favorite for the reasons you listed - Nanny Cay is quieter than Road Town and yet has basic provisioning, a couple of good restaurants and several other amenities. We've also really been pleased with Horizon's service - so much less hassle than dealing with the masses at Moorings. I was surprised to see the other post you mentioned since we think that the care and maintenance of the boats was one of Horizon's strengths - we've only noted minor issues which were resolved before we ever left Nanny Cay. We're looking forward to returning and chartering from Horizon for the fifth year in a row in December.

A Swain 2012 graduate, I looked closely at Horizon. Friends who have chartered with them have been happy. Some owners less so. I ended up sticking with St. Thomas based charters due to travel convenience and an extra day of sailing.
One of the things that struck me as a negative about some of the smaller Horizon boats was lack of auto-pilot.

Although Horizon and Swain share the dockspace I believe they are totally different entities..right???

I will second Beans: Been bareboating the BVI's since late 90's with pretty much all of the majors. Used Horizon's for the first time last May and it was probably one of the best experiences: Location, staff, and boat.
