Is there Bbq's available for use at the La Plage? Are there any tips for staying here? We usually stay in Simpson's Bay and are familiar with the Maho area but would like anyone's advice!

HI, we bring a power bar and a kitchen knife [in checked luggage]. Plugs are a little short in supply if you have electronics, the power bar solves that issue. We like a sharp kitchen knife, so always bring one. Taco Macho nearby is a great happy hour spot for inexpensive food and drink. If you are on the "1" side, don;t leave a candle on the balcony table, it will melt in the afternoon sun!
Just have fun, good place to stay

Edit'd to add, Jeannie has access to La Plage and does a great job of making sure our drinks are cold before we arrive. There are some shopping carts at La PLage and I've seen people pushing them down to the Maho mkt and back full, but I ask why, when Jeannie does that for you and in advance with a smile

While we are talking about La Plage, is there any way to stick around after checkout at 10:00 AM? We can be out of our unit by 10:00 easily, but our flight is not until 4:00 PM. Since it will be on a Saturday we'll probably go return the rental car at 1:00 PM and then head to the airport, but I'm wondering what to do between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. It would be great to be able to use the pool & bathroom and then change from pool to flight attire. Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Couple of things about our trip to SXM 4/16-23 which includes La Plage. 1)pretty cloudy and rain for most of our trip but still that wasn't the worst part of it. 2)Our unit had a dehumidifier installed which made the room a lot more comfortable than last year but I still had to empty it out about 3 x's per day. maybe they need some new airconditioners. 3)did anyone have this problem - I purchased a sim card from Sharon and she was wonderful - no problem there but after 3 days of calling the US area code (847) we could not get through - in other words it seemed as though Telsim blocked that area code and we were trying to stay in touch with a 91 Y/O senior. Finally to your question about what to do - we also left at 4 so we drove to Serafinas in Marigot and had a wonderful breakfast then took a nice drive around the island.

HI, when you check out you can ask to keep your towels until you leave. On Sat and Sun, there are change rooms with showers to use and a room to store your luggage. We have checked out, kept our "plane clothes in a carry on. When time to go, change and take a cab to the airport. If you have a car we've checked our luggage in advance, dropped the car and been dropped back at La Plage. We find lunch etc and take a cab back to the airport.

Easy and remember your flight app to check if your plane is on time - if not more beach time for you!

Thanks JohnandBev! I envision leaving the room at 10:00 AM, storing the luggage, going over to SSBG for a late breakfast, and then lounging pool-side for a couple of hours before collecting luggage, changing into airport clothes and heading out to drop the rental car and go to the airport. It sounds like we should be able to do that.

The unit has a coffee maker that uses "basket" style filters. I pack these along with a bag of ground cofee.

Sorry...no non-stick pans in the units. We keep a cheap bottle of red wine handy to deglaze the pans before trying to clean them with just the little sponge and dish detergent they give you.

Since we stay in low season and our unit usually isn't occupied after our departure, we have been quietly allowed a very gracious late checkout. I also bring fresh brewed starbucks coffee every morning to the front desk. It's amazing how a small gesture can help you out.

Regarding the non-stick pans, we bring one Brillo pad which helps tremendously. We also bring sugar, coffee mate, DD coffee, and filters. These do not take up too much room in your luggage. There are salt and pepper shakers in the kitchen.

May just break down and bring a small fry pan. We do eggs everyday and it might just be easier for omelets. Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Nothing better than having your favorite pan.

Unless it's having your favorite knife.

Absolutely! I leave my favorite at home, and bring a cheap one with me. It's not the best, but still better than what's in the unit, lol.
