We were on Jost a few years ago on Mothers Day. Took a walk from White Bay to Great Harbour. We strolled past a church, stopped and listened to the singing, and our curious side took us to the front door. When we glanced in we saw a sight we will never forget. Every woman was dressed to the nines, all the men were so handsomely dressed, and the kids were the cutest. It was all about Mom !! I highly recommend seeking out a church on whatever island you are moored at and see for yourself. Truly a life experience for us.

SoggyDollarScott, from what I have seen over the years, that is the typical church day in most every church in the BVI. Women wearing hats and their Sunday Best, the men in their best suits, etc. It's obvious that the parishioners have a great deal of pride in their church, and dress accordingly.

Beware that a church service might last considerably longer than you expect. A few years ago some Newbies, a priest and his wife, decided to go to church on JVD. They left, before the service ended (as they were feeling rather hot and bothered and in need of water)after two and a half hours! Later that day we were questioned by a youngster as to why they had left early and told that the service had then continued for a further half an hour with much lambasting of those rude enough to leave early!

Mothering Sunday in the British tradition is the is 4th Sunday of Lent, 3 weeks before Easter Sunday, so the US " Mothers Day" in May probably won't have such a special cachet in the BVI.

Celebrate your Mothers Day wherever you are. If I had one place to pick, I'd pick Anegada and be a very happy camper if it came about that way ! I wouldn't be crying about lunch or dinner at Hog Heaven Virgin Gorda, no tears shed about dinner upstairs at Leverick, nor would there be any sniffles about Cooper Island, either. Heck, I'd be smiling large cooking burgers and brats on the boat at Benures Bay.

I'm not surprised they dress up every Sunday, but you could definitely tell on that Sunday it was all about Mom. They had a potluck type thing going on afterwards, and invited us to stay. We gracefully declined although the spread looked incredible.

We will be on Jost for Mothers Day this year and plan to attend..... And rest assured, I'm sticking around to try some local flavor afterwards !!
