Saturday 18/12/10
Had breakfast at Café Ole’ again, coffee and pain au chocolat $12 EC. Took the bus to Castries, $3.5 EC compared to $20US with a cab. Shopped at the market for fresh fruit and ingredients for my Thia prawn rolls that I will make for lunch one day this week. Had my first saltfish and bake of the season $3.50EC. Nothing like some good saltfish in the morning. Headed back to the marina, surprisingly Nick had risen from the dead so we went down to the pool for a swim. Later we went with Dan and Em to go have lunch and do the food (and adult beverage )shop for the trip. The dingy dock was crowded but an American couple were just leaving so we were able to get a spot. We had lunch at the food court in the old mall, curry chicken with rice, peas, green figs, raw salad and macaroni pie $14EC, funny as it may seem that was the best meal so far. They decided to try the supermarket at the new mall, the selection of products was not as good as the Super J and the rum was about $2EC more a bottle. Met another of the crew, he had been Mate on Skylarks trip down from South Hampton to Las Palmas.
We went to the ARC awards party where Matt from Snow Wolf took second in class and Dan took third with Skylark. Both Dan and Em, who skippered Great Escape over were part of the radio net so they each got a bottle of Chairmans Reserve, we will make good use of that. My favorite part of the ceremony each year is when they bring the ARC children on stage, what an amazing experience that must be for them to sail across the Atlantic the youngest this year was 9 months old. The party was great fun as usual with plenty of rum punch, Pitons, Hienekens and food.
Went back to the marina and Nick and I helped a German couple fend their boat off dock so they could reset the fenders. Nick rolled in about 7:00 something about drinking rum with a couple guys he told me as we passed on my way to the shower. Today the last of the guests arrive and the charter begins, so these post will hopefully get a little more interesting.
