Secondary coverage just means if you have primary coverage (such as your personal or business auto insurance), the secondary benefits only provide coverage for amounts in excess of your primary coverage. So if you live and rent within the USA and have a collision claim, you need to file with your own insurance company first which means your insurance company may raise your rates due to the claim.
