Hi Friends--
It's been a long time, but we're headed back to BVI heaven after too many years. One of us is training for the NY marathon in November and I'd like to know, as we're deciding our itinerary, if any of you have favorite safe running spots, especially that we can get to from our sloop and dingy. Thank you for any advise you can share, and best wishes all around.

On Norman, there is a path behind Pirates that goes up to a helicopter pad. It then branches off left and right and the paths follow the ridge. Beautiful views. I run up to the pad and back down. The ridge paths are a bit rough and rocky. Ankle sprain waiting to happen.. It's a little boring but a good workout.

Be ready for HILLS, hard to avoid. I'm used to them so I don't mind.

At Leverick you can run the road to the left of the resort. You can run toward Gorda Peak and run the road to to Hog Heaven. Steep! Great workout!
VG Yacht Harbor. Run the road either direction.

On JVD. Run from bay to bay. Again, HILLS but doable. Beautiful view!

When running on Tortola keep your head on a swivel when not on a sidewalk. There is a track downtown also.

Unless you are willing to do several hundred laps on the beach? I haven't found a good place to run on Cooper.

Hope this helps a little,

I've never had much luck finding "good places" to train on charter. But that's ok with me. Vacation is for fun and while, when conducive I will go run, swim etc. on vacation, not running for a week really isn't going to effect her training all that much.

Giving her legs a rest week might even be a good thing. Plenty of opportunity to swim or otherwise cross train without planning too much.

1) Virgin Gorda Yacht Club: ran from there up to the Baths and beyond. No sidewalks so you have to be careful of traffic
2) Trellis Bay: ran from dock past airport and off Beef Island onto Tortola. Again careful of traffic
3) Bitter End Yacht Club: trails over to and through Biras Creek Resort.

Good luck with training and like one poster stated, sometimes it good to have some time off from running.

Isn't that interesting... We are going to Virgin Gorda for a long weekend and I was just going to post the same question about running in the area around Spanish Town. We usually stay at Saba Rock and do a lot of hiking, and am not as familiar with the town area.

P.S. There is a 1/2 marathon 12/3/16 in Tortola that is flat and fun.

Some run on the road right along the ocean between Roadtown and West End. As mentioned it is where they will have the 1/2 marathon in December. A couple friends are using our place on Virgin Gorda and going to run in it. Now traffic moves fast so be careful. In May I think Dive BVI and others have some events from Spanishtown up North sound Road out to Mahoe over the hills. I see runners on North Sound road frequently but again lots of hills curves, narrow roads and some fast moving local traffic. All in all..it would be safer to swim.

You can enjoy a great 4 mile run from the Anegada anchorage all the way to Cow Wreck on beaches - head left as you face land -- nice to jump in the water when you get hot too!

The road from Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour to the Baths is easy as pie. No traffic at 6 am. But if someone is looking for a long run, it would be necessary to do multiple loops. I didn't bring my Garmin, but I don't think it's longer than 1 1/2 miles.
