I will be land-based at Leverick from 1/15-1/21 and would like suggestions for your "must dos" for the week. This is my 3rd trip to BVI and my gals 1st. She is all about snorkeling and turtles. I will have a car rental for the week and we are wide open...

Hog Heaven for sure. We also found Savannah Bay a great place to snorkel right off the beach. Please let me know what you find as we are planning a full day on VG in May.

Spring, Mahoe & Savannah Bays are our favorites for snorkeling. Hog Heaven for the views, Jumbies for happy aaaarrr, a nice dinner at Coco Maya, ferry to Saba Rock and or Bitter End.

What a great place to be based for a week !

Leverick Bay can set you up with car rental, and I do believe LB Water Sport can rent you a dinghy for water exploration, too. There is " ferry service" in and around North Sound so you'll be able to get around even if you don't choose to rent a dinghy.

The Crawl is a snorkler's paradise just toward Spanishtown from the Baths. It is a good swim from shore, worse in surf/swell/wind, so take that into consideration before you get your heart set on it.

You can check out the snorkeling from Prickly Pear.

Ask whether the glass bottom boat tours are still available, as well as the possibility of a tour of Necker Island.

In the past it has been allowed to dinghy over to Mosquito Island and snorkel the small reef off Honeymoon Beach. Check with the folks at Leverick before you attempt that one.

Ditto, check with Leverick-- about whether you can dinghy into the landing at Biras Creek and walk out to Deep Bay. The beach there is very nice, sheltered, although I've never heard the snorkeling is excellent, it might be a " glad we went and saw a bit of heaven."

Savannah Bay and Spring Bay, definitely. The food at Leverick is completely awesome, and " sand gravity" may convince you to stay close by, but Coco Maya, Top of the Baths, Hog Heaven are three " don't miss" eating adventures. Taxi service is available if you don't choose to rent a vehicle.

Take the " ferry" over to Saba and/or Bitter End. Ask about a dinghy rental for getting out into Eustacia Reef -- I'm guessing this could be your gal's Turtle prize. There is dinghy mooring, there may also be morning/afternoon trips scheduled from Bitter End.

Great dive shop at Leverick-- Dive BVI. By all means , check with them for excursions, I do believe they have an Anegada day trip in their offerings. That is a do-not-miss. Fair warning, Anegada can be downright addicting, even as a day trip. You won't be the first one caught in that spell, but you may also escape that affliction.

Sheesh, I'll shut up before I have you staying 2 weeks.

OOPS. Just saw in another thread that you ARE staying another week on boat charter.... LOLOL pretty sure you've got all the bases covered !

Land-based, we love Spring Bay/Valley Trunk for a beach walk and swimming - snorkeling is just okay. Long Bay has our favorite snorkeling from land and is reasonably sheltered in a north swell. We enjoy a later afternoon visit to The Baths and Devils Bay. Rent a dinghy for the day at Leverick and hit some of the protected spots in North Sound.

Cheers, RickG

Anyone's first trip to VG should probably include visiting the Baths.
The experience is dramatically different in the early morning or late
afternoon. Further, the 20 minute snorkel to and from Spring Bay is
very nice, conditions permitting.
A late lunch and drink(s) with Edith at Mad Dogs is kind of like a beach
bar without a beach. Edith is the best.
We enjoy dinner at the Rendeveau(sp) in VGYH.
The Friday buffet and Macko Jumbies show at Leverick would be
a fun last night on island.

Really like Breeze's "sand gravity".
Now I have phrase that explains why
I tend to just stay put.

If you venture into Spanish Town, make a reservation at Chez Bamboo. It's a little pricey but the food is terrific.

Hog Heaven is obviously a given. Breakfast at the Top of the Baths before you go snorkeling is a must as well. Awesome views of Tortola.

Drive over to the copper mine to see the breathtaking vistas from the 'other' side of the island.

Take it slow. Enjoy Leverick and the North Sound. The ferries between BEYC, Saba, and Leverick run often. You know a couple secret spots at BEYC from our trips there. Go to happy hour at Saba. Show her the Tarpon feeding and take a nap on Donna's deck.

Most of all ... Enjoy your lady. You'll be in one of the most beautiful, romantic places in the world.

I was told by a very rude manager at Saba that the ferry was for paying hotel guests only.

Me too! I've been there twenty? Thirty times? Spent thousands there! Has always been one of my favorite spots! Last time I was there the manager saw us drinking Saba rock frozen drinks waiting on the ferry to BEYC, he asked what we were doing, explained that we were waiting for ferry, told us guests only!

Yea, that's a surprise to me as well and I've never heard that before. Hard to understand their stance on that one, if they stick to it. It seems they would want all the dinner and bar guests they could gt from the other resorts.

I suspect that's a short-lived policy and/or one that will be almost impossible to enforce.

Ditto on all the above recommendations! I would definitely try to make a Day trip to Anegada. Ferry runs from Spanishtown M-W-F-Sun I believe. Arrange a jeep through DW Jeep rentals and Dean will meet you at the ferry dock. Double check return time for the ferry though, and don't be late!
Cow Wreck Beach is my personal favorite.

Coppermine point is gorgeous, and an easy side trip when you go to The Baths. Check cruise ship schedules and try to plan your trip to The Baths around cruise ship excursion hours to avoid the crowds.

No matter what you do, or don't do, it will be a great week. Leverick is our favorite stop on VG. We think the painkillers at Jumbie's beach bar are the best in the islands!
