We saw a K-9 at the airport when we arrived yesterday. He was crawling on the luggage turnstyle, walking over each piece of luggage!

We had an experience with a drug dog many years ago when returning from a trip to Grenada via SJU. We'd to reclaim our bags and wait with them in line before rechecking them.
A handler was walking through the area and his dog stopped at our luggage and in particular he was sniffing our carry-on cooler bag. It scared the heck out of me even though I knew there was nothing in there he could be looking for. Of course, I had to open it and show the handler and in the end he apologized for the inconvenience and explained the dog was young and very new on the job. Seems the dog was more interested in the uneaten remains of my tuna sandwich than anything else.

We had an experience in Puerto Rico where we were next to some shaggy looking surfer dudes with their boards and bags....a dog comes around. I didn't want to be anywhere near them so we moved away. Sure enough the dog alerted on them! Lol

Most of the dogs that you see in US entrypoint airports are Agriculture dogs. They're trained to alert on fruits and meats. The ones that you don't see, in the depths of the airport walking "upstream" on the converyor belt of luggage, they're more likely to be drug dogs.

A couple of years ago, coming back from SXM into Miami, the beagle alerted on our checked bag... The agent asked us what was in the bag and when we replied that it was a BIG wheel of gouda, he let us pass and didn't bother to open the bag..
