I just got off the phone with Jet Blue. They refunded me the full amount for both our November and March tickets. Right back to my credit card.

I've never had an airline do that, they will usually "Bank" the money for you and often give you a year to use it. So Thank You Jet Blue.

Jan and I can now plan our return as it fits into our schedule and the island's status.

Just as a point of information, we visited the island 11 months after Luis and it was just getting ready to take visitors.

The destruction from Luis pales in comparison to the devastation from Irma.

The island is resilient and we hope to be back, but it will be a while.

Just my humble opinion.

I didn't think we'd have a chance of getting through so I cancelled online. The upgrade seat costs went back to my credit card but the airfare was put into a travel bank, which expires 365 days from the date of issue.

UPDATE: We called JetBlue and after 20 minutes on hold (not bad considering) were told as long as we book before 9/12/18 we are ok to use the fares.

I just got off the phone with JetBlue to cancel my November flight to SXM also, but they would only credit my airfare to their travel bank, good for a future flight as long as I book by 9/12/18. However, I already have a travel credit with a different airline that must be booked by April 2018, and thus did not want another travel bank. So, I am curious what "magic words" you said to get a refund to your credit card.

I have no idea what I did that was special.

I had tried a number of times to get through to Jet Blue with too long a wait for me. So I called about 6:20 this morning (EST). The person was very pleasant and clearly confirmed that my fares would be credited back to my original form of payment.

I haven't checked my credit card account yet, so I don't know if this has actually happened. I'll check in a day or so and post an update.

(BTW. I might have changed these tickets to my Jet Blue credit card. )

Jet Blue refunded our 10-14-17 flight to SXM. Initially, we had called them on Sept 7th and got a recording saying to call back at another time if our flight was more than 7 days from the day we called. I then checked online, and the flight was available to cancel and to bank, with fees attached, though. I said the hell with that and called again and waited on the line, and eventually, about 20 minutes later, a customer rep came on the line. I explained our situation, and of course she knew about the devastating storm. She refunded the whole amount, $1,623.00, to our credit card. She gave us confirmation numbers for the refund and told us it would take 7 to 10 days to show up as refunded on our card. Later that night we booked a flight to a clothing-optional resort on Curacao (supposedly the only clothing-optional resort in the ABC islands) for the same week, 10-14-17 to 10-21-17. Jet Blue is excellent.

I tried a few times yesterday but the wait times on the phone were too long. Woke up this morning at 4 a.m. and got right through. Full refund to my credit card, no questions asked.

Hmmm. I called them a couple of days ago to cancel our November flights and they would only offer travel bank credit.

I guess it's time to try again. I didn't take that offer.

OK! Just got off with JetBlue, only a 10 minute wait on hold, and everything has been credited back to our credit card and points restored!
