Hey! We have just booked our 7th charter for May 9-20! WooHoo! It's been a long 7 years since our last trip.
Captain wants to throw out a fishing line. Can anyone point in the direction of fishing licenses? I felt like there use to be a link somewhere around here.
Cheers!!

Just fyi, the rules changed about 2 years ago. On top of each individual who will be fishing needing a license, the actual boat will need a "fishing vessel registration number." If the boat you're on doesn't have it, you won't be able to legally fish. So, you may want to check that out before forking out the money for a license.

As tradeiwnds said the boat also needs a licence. We chartered with Dream Yacht and their boats are not licensed as fishing vessels - cue one disappointed fisherman!

I'm surprised they aren't licensed. We had a boat in the DYC fleet before Irma and it was licensed. They even had it posted inside the boat. It was my understanding that they were licensing all of their boats. I guess things have changed post Irma.

They probably brought new boats into the fleet and they haven't been licensed yet.

We are chartering with Conch on their new (new to them) Lagoon 500. They register the boats as fishing boats before they charter I think. The Lagoon 500 is registered.

Headed down for a 10 day charter beginning 4/9/18 with BVIYC. I sent them a email a couple of days ago asking if our catamaran was registered as a "fishing vessel" and explained that we would like to be able to drag a line.

They said that it was not, but then explained that they would (and did) apply for the permit, which they will now issue in the BVI for pleasure charter vessels. As soon as they make application, you can apply for your fishing license.

You cannot apply for a fishing license earlier than 2 weeks out, and you cannot apply if you are within 5 days of your charter start date.

Contact your charter company and ask them to register your boat as a fishing vessel.
